June 24 is traditionally Midsummer, a public holiday celebrating summer in many countries. In Sweden and Finland, it falls on the Friday and Saturday between June 19 and June 26, inclusive. It is also celebrated in many Christian-oriented countries as St. John's Day, after the feast day of Saint John the Baptist, the preacher and prophet who both foresaw Jesus as a messianic figure greater than himself and later baptized him.
