March 25 is Tolkien Reading Day, founded in 2003 by The Tolkien Society to bring in more readers of the works of renowned fantasy writer and linguist J. R. R. Tolkien. Tolkien was the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as well as a number of other, lesser-known works, from poems to short stories, some of which have been published posthumously by his son. His works set in Middle Earth have been a major influence on much of today's fantasy.
A note about Tolkien's name: his last name is pronounced tol-KEEN, and not tol-KIN.
