Impalement is the penetration of an organism by an object such as a stake, pole, spear or hook, often through the central body mass. Impalement can be deliberately inflicted on an enemy in battle, or occur by complete accident, but it has also been used as an especially cruel method of sexual torture and execution: the victim is impaled through their anus or vagina and suspended in an upright position for public display. From there, gravity slowly drags the victim down the stake - seeking any relief from the pain, the desperate victim instinctively squirms on the pole, their helpless struggling only forcing the shaft deeper into their body until it inevitably runs them through.

A more sadistic executioner might drag out the victim's suffering by choosing a blunt object to slow their descent, or adding a cross bar so they can't ever slide down far enough for the stake to pierce the chest and stop their breathing. Either way, the result is a prolonged, humiliating, and exceedingly painful death, with some victims lasting for days before dying.

Impalement pictures are usually tagged with gore and blood.
