Stairs (also known as staircase, stairway and other terms) are an architectural construction consisting of a series of steps providing access to a floor of a public or private area or building (hotel, house, school, skyscraper, etc...)
Stairs allow you to go up (to a higher level) and down (to a lower level).

Staircases can be made of stone, wood, metal, concrete, glass or even plaster...
These constructions are often placed next to emergency exit doors of apartments to enable users to evacuate more quickly.

A handrail is a safety element located at the side of a stairway. (For your safety, please hold the handrail when climbing up and down, and do not sit or slide on the handrail).

Stairways with steps that move automatically are called "escalator".
