Character: baldur (deity)
Baldr the Bright or Baldur/Balder, is a figure in Norse Mythology. He was the son of Odin and Frigg and brother of Thor, Villi, Vidar, Heimdallr, and twin brother of Hodr.
Baldur, was the god of light, truth, peace, and goodness and the most handsome and beloved being in the world. He was married to a goddess named Nana and had a son named Forseti. However, it was prophesied that Baldur would be killed.
In order to prevent this from happening, Baldur's mother Frigg convinced everyone and everything in existence to sign a legally and magically binding agreement that they would never harm Baldur. As a result Baldur becomes invincible as attacks missed or bounced harmlessly off him.
The Aesir decided to make it a game of attacking Baldur and watching him be unharmed. But Loki, God of mischief grew jealous of Baldur. Using his powers of shape-shifting he managed to disguise himself as an old lady and gleaned from one exception to Baldur's newfound invincibility: Mistletoe. Using that to his advantage he found a branch of Mistletoe and sharpened it into a dart and attached it to the tip of an arrow. He then gave it to Baldur's twin brother Hodr who was blind. Guided by Loki, Hodr pulled back on the drawstring with all his might and fired the arrow directly through his heart.
Baldur died instantly, and with his death the countdown to Ragnarok began.
