january (month)
January is the first month of the Julian and Gregorian calendars, lasting for 31 days. In the Northern Hemisphere, January is the first full month of winter and, in the Southern Hemisphere, the first full month of summer. It is named after Janus, the literally two-faced Roman god of beginnings, transitions, and doorways.
January's birthstone is the garnet, representing constancy. January's flowers are the cottage pink or carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) and the snowdrops (Galanthus). In regards to the western zodiac, January is under the sign of Capricorn until the 19th, when the sign of Aquarius begins.
Note: This should only be tagged when a monthly calendar is in the picture or when the picture is visibly January-themed. It should not be tagged for a themed art month (such as Inktober) or the month a post was originally created.
