One of the Major Arcana defined in tarot. In typical portrayals, Death is some avatar of death (a rider upon a pale horse, a skeleton with a scythe, etc.) Between the various depictions of Death, there generally remain a few consistent themes:

• Death comes for all (in various decks, this is hinted at by the corpse or decapitated head of a king.)
• Death is unavoidable (in Rider Waite, Death wears a suit of armor.)

In cartomancy, the upright Death arcanum is interpreted as endings, change, transformation, and transition.
The reversed Death arcanum is interpreted as resistance to change, personal transformation, and inner purging.
