Character: kovu (the lion king)

Kovu is the deuteragonist of the 1998 Disney direct-to-video film, The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, the sequel to the 1994 film, The Lion King. He is the son of Zira, the youngest brother of Nuka and Vitani, the mate of Kiara, son-in-law of Simba and Nala, and brother in law to Kion and Rani. Contrary to popular belief, Scar is not Kovu's father.

Kovu is a male lion with auburn fur and rich dark brown tufts of fur sprouting from his elbow joints, head, and tail tip. When he reaches maturity his head tuft expands to a regal lions mane, although unlike other adult lions like Simba or Scar, the tuft is still visible. Also unlike Scar specifically, his mane is dark brown, not black. His dark eye shades mirror those of his siblings, but his emerald green eyes match no member of his family's. He later gets a scar across his left eye identical to Scar's that is inflicted by Zira.

Kovu is very loosely based on the character of Romeo Montague from the Shakespearian Tragedy Romeo and Juliet.

Kovu's name means "scar" in Swahili.

Kovu is voiced as a cub by Ryan O'Donohue and Jason Marsden as an adult. The latter of whom also serves as the official voice of Max Goof since A Goofy Movie in 1995.
