Character: the beast (over the garden wall)
The Beast cannot be mollified like some farmer's pet! He stalks like the night. He sings like the Four Winds. He is the Death of Hope! He steals their children and he'll... ruin... [mumbles] ~The Woodsman on the Beast
The Beast of Eternal Darkness or just The Beast is the main antagonist of the Cartoon Network original miniseries Over the Garden Wall.
The Beast is an entity who haunts the woods of the unknown. His body appears to be covered in shadows with the exception of his large luminescent eyes. The beasts body appears to be composed of Edelwood, with the faces of his previous victims carved into his skin in frozen human agony. He also has large gnarled antlers that resembles tree branches.
The Beast is known to wander the woods singing with an operatic voice and spying on travelers through black baby turtles. He is the embodiment of surrender. That you will not live long enough to return home. As people get lost in the woods and give into despair or exhaustion he may lay claim to their soul. Edelwood trees will grow around and eventually subsume his victims into them. Their souls are then ground up into oil which fuels The Dark Lantern and by extension The Beast's existence.
