The Outbursts of Everett True was a newspaper comic published 1905 to 1927 featuring the portly and irritable Everett True. The comic can be summarized thusly: a common and frequent annoyance would appear that most people would suffer with in silence followed by Everett clobbering the source of the annoyance, often accompanied by his venting about it. Despite this, he did have a certain set of ethics he kept to. He never struck children or women (though the latter he would yell at when they aggravated him) and stood for decorum and solid virtues but didn't discriminate and would as soon as take a poke at a policeman or politician as he would a common boor or pest. The only person who could successfully turn the tables on him was his own wife, who frequently made him regret those times when he was the annoyance.
The comic sometimes reflected the times, with Everett going after a man who ogled a woman's accidentally exposed ankle (still in shoe) or ramming someone who talked about evolution into a monkey cage. Many times, however, the annoyances were timeless and still relevant today. Examples include seat hogs, inconsiderate smokers (although Everett wasn't against smoking in general), abusers of children and animals, and even a man who refused to wear a mask during a pandemic (the Spanish flu in this case).
