Sonic the Hedgehog, colloquially known as Sonic SatAM, was a Saturday morning cartoon adaptation of Sonic that ran from 1993 to 1994. Compared to the other Sonic show at the time, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, SatAM is much darker and more serious in tone.

Despite the show first airing after the debut of the Sonic comics by Archie, the comics were inspired by the show's pre-production materials and loosely adapted its story at the beginning before outlasting it and derailing into its own canon. Some characters from Archie Sonic, such as Sally Acorn, were actually conceptualized for SatAM. SatAM's characters would also appear in Sonic Spinball and the Sonic the Comic series by Fleetway.
