A Zergling is the most basic type of Zerg Combat Unit in the Starcraft series. They are the second smallest unit after the zerg larvae. They are roughly the size of a large dog, standing about 1 meter tall with a mostly quadrupedal stance and additional sickle limbs and sharp incisor teeth, used primarily for tearing into flesh. Further upgrades and mutations may result in Zerglings developing small wings to increase movement speed and mobility and adrenal glands to increase their size and aggression.

While individually weak, Zerglings genetic sequence is so simple that when a larvae mutates into a Zergling it is able to spawn 2 or 3 from one cocoon. Combine with the fact that Zerglings are the cheapest and fastest unit to make in the game, Zerglings can quickly overrun enemies with higher firepower or heavier fortifications through sheer numbers in one of their infamous Zerg Rushes.
