The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 musical comedy horror film written by Richard O'Brien and starring Barry Bostowick, Susan Surandon and Tim Curry. The movie is an adaptation of O'Brien's stage show The Rocky Horror Show.
It tells the story of Brad Majors and Janet Weiss, an engaged couple who decide to visit their friend Doctor Everett Scott. While driving at night, they get a flat tire and have to spend the night at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter, a transvestite mad scientist from Transylvania, who is ready to bring life to his latest creation, an artificial man known as Rocky Horror.
The movie is regarded as a cult classic that's well known for its fandom, with people dressing up as the characters, acting the movie in front of it, singing the songs and talking back to the movie. For example, whenever Brad Majors introduces himself, the audience screams "Asshole!", and when Janet gets introduced the audience screams "Slut!" Other instances of audience participation include people getting up from their seats and dancing to "The Time Warp" and using flashlights during the number "Over at the Frankenstein's Place". The film remains in limited release to this day despite its age, with midnight screenings still occurring at many theaters.
