Alright e621, the site has been online for a little over a week now, and while things are going well (eg. the site is actually up and running), we obviously have a few problems. This post is here to serve as a master bug-list and for people to bring new bugs to our attention. This post is NOT meant to be a discussion ABOUT specific bugs though; please create an actual forum thread if you feel a bug requires discussion.

BUG LIST
  • Every image has "Remove from Favorites" AND "Add to Favorites", instead of just one or the other. This doesn't seem to happen for every user, but does occur if you're not currently logged in. http://e621.net/forum/show/8383
  • Subscribed images lists are switched around so that images set to appear in one list appear in another, with another set appearing in its place. http://e621.net/forum/show/8437
  • Deleted images are no longer completely hidden from view, even for visitors who are not logged in. This bug is currently going to receive the highest priority. http://e621.net/forum/show/8537
  • It's currently not possible to create new aliases. Newly proposed aliases are not appearing in the list of aliases for approval.

Please feel free to add to this list and link to the relevant forum posts.

Additionally, if you or someone you know has experience with Ruby on Rails, any help we could get would be greatly appreciated.

Thank goodness that one bug that looks like a croissant that you can freeze and use as a platform is one bug that hasn't been causing problems lately..

I don't know if it can be considered a bug, but there is the artist wiki issue : forum #8427

Oh you~

Updated by anonymous

... I realize this isn't exactly a bug so much as a change in V2.2, but...

The limit on search terms for accounts of Member and Privileged rank have been defaulted to the Danbooru settings of 2 and 6, respectively, whereas they were 4/8 on e621 before then. Given that people have mentioned before that bandwidth (and not processing) was the primary strain on the website's server(s) by a significant ratio, I suspect it was an unintentional overwrite of settings when transplanting bits from Danbooru.

Updated by anonymous

I don't know if it counts, but I've left the comment threshold at the default, but then I still see pics with x number of posts below the threshold.

Then put the threshold at a negative number.

Well that's an easy one :). Someone marked a comment down. Default is zero, but you can have negative comments.

Updated by anonymous

not really a bug, but when i go to settings, next to uploaded tags says danbooru instead of e621. also when i get the something broke error message, the title is failbooru

Updated by anonymous

Well, I encountered the bug with the subscriptions being switched around. I tried to fix it by deleting and re-adding my subscriptions, but now I can't see them at all. Are subscriptions restricted to Contributors and up? And about deleted images not being completely hidden, is it going to be like the old e621, where deleted images could never be viewed by clicking on the size link, or will it still be like how Danbooru is now? And are we going to speed up approvals?

Updated by anonymous

The link next to "size" that should be a direct link to the image doesn't work.

If you click to the last page without searching for anything, it doesn't go to the last page; it goes to 20 or so pages away from the last page, and the page numbers disappear. You have to keep clicking "next page" to go any further.

If you go search for male, female, or solo and click the last page the page numbers and navigation disappear.

Updated by anonymous

For the link next to size: for me, I have to right-click, and click "open". Just clicking it by itself has never worked for me since I joined the site.

One of the bugs that keeps popping up with me is an inaccurate number of image tags. I.e if I search raccoon it says there are 281 images tagged raccoon. But when you click on an image the number jumps to 951. its a minor bug... But its there.

Yeah, I'm not sure if that's a bug or if the calculation is just different between the two contexts, because the same thing happens on Danbooru. Not with the same numbers, just that the count changes between the thumbnails page and an image page.

If I were familiar with Ruby on Rails, I'd be tempted to offer to fix bugs on an item-by-item basis in my somewhat-limited free time. Sadly, I am not familiar with RoR, and this is not likely to change in the near future.

Not anymore.

Odd that it wasn't mentioned yet (or maybe I just overlooked it), but the system is behaving in very weird ways when I go from the main Post Index to the last page number and then try to navigate from there:

Summary:

  • The Prev link seems to point at the last page you visited, not the actual previous page number. (And I just checked with preview: If you click either the "page=2697" link or the "_id=616" one from here, the Prev button points back at this forum post)
  • The Next link can also become a bit confused, especially when going back and forth with the actual link buttons (instead of the browser ones)
  • After experimenting a bit, the navigation seems to work fine until you reach page 1000. Once you get there, the numbers are gone.
  • Also, 2697 isn't actually the last page.

Updated by anonymous

I just noticed that now we can't search for deleted images at all. I know that with the old system, the image was technically still in the system, but not viewable. This was good, because if someone uploaded a duplicate of something that was already deleted, we could search for some of the same tags along with status:deleted to find out if it's a duplicate. It's also the way that the Find Similar feature works on Danbooru. I don't think the Find Similar feature will work if we aren't able to verify if something was already posted or not. But first we need to get the Find Similar feature working so we can test this out, and so we can cut back on reposts.

The current patch for searching status:deleted is quick and dirty. We just needed a fast solution because of the nature of the problem. We'll eventually try to get things back to how they were before, don't worry. This is the quick solution for right now though.

Nothing yet, Nrr is working very hard on getting everything fixed though. Just having to take it one thing at a time.

I forgot to ask about that. What was the nature of the problem?

Updated by anonymous

It was fixed yesterday Ultima. It was a bug that let you view deleted images (not just their thumbnails)

Am I fashionably late?

Ultima_Weapon said:

Yep. I'm trying to make time to fix that and just about everything else on here.

At the moment, though, I'm focusing mostly on infrastructure problems because those are the most pressing. If the bridge is crumbling, it doesn't matter how many cars drive over it; some will still fall into the river.

Updated by anonymous

Right now, I'm noticing that I definitely have my work cut out for me. Part of Rails' ERb views broke, and my inbox is currently getting flooded with messages containing Rails stack traces, so I'm working on fixing this before focusing on anything else.

In case anyone's curious: post#index (ActionView::TemplateError) "undefined method page_count' for []:Array" The sad part is that rolling back my changes is not working, so I'm having to figure out the hard way what's broken. Not fun.

Boy, this is turning out to be a fucking understatement.

Updated by anonymous

Every time I try to access a pic it brings up a window that asks why I should be a moderator and it won't let me see any pics at all no matter what it is. What is the deal with this?

Updated by anonymous

wat.. can you post a screenshot for us please?

Updated by anonymous

Not sure if this one counts as a bug or not.. but..

Right now, I'm typing in a text box. In the lower right corner of this box there's an icon that means 'click here to drag this box larger. When I click on it, I can drag the box wider and longer.

So far so good. But. Right to the right of where i"m trying, there is the 'DText reference' text that is very useful. The problem is when I drag the next box out to the right, the text box goes UNDER the DText reference--which displays as white text set in a large blue rectangle a bit wider with the longest line of text. This makes dragging the box wider is useless, and I can only drag the box longer to see more text at a time.

Is this a problem with my webbrowser (google chrome 6.0.472.63 on windows 7)? or with the website?

it's hardly a top priority thing one way or another, however, it certainty doesn't seem to be working as intended. :)

Updated by anonymous

well, mines not showing that little drag box. i'm using firefox. its probably your browser

The ability to resize textboxes is one that's built into Chrome and does not depend on the website supporting such functionality at all.

The site is working exactly as intended, just this feature of Chrome isn't working as intended with the site. :P

The previous administration made that a privileged-users-only feature a while ago. We do plan on changing that again in the near future, since we don't have nearly enough privileged users to make use of that feature.

Oooh.. well dang. And here I thought the internet had suddenly gotten so much cooler because i'd been seeing those lil drag points /everywhere/.... durf.

Sorry for the stupid question and thanks much for the answer that didn't actually make fun of me. ;)

True, though I also meant it as gently self-deprecating too :D But.. i do thank people for not-assholishness too.. which IS sad. but, off topic! ty again :D

I wanted to see the very first images posted to e621.
So I clicked on "Posts" and then on 2787 (number of the last page).
Result: "Nobody here but us chickens!"

That's a result of deleted images. They "show up" in the search, but are hidden. So... yeah.

Yeah, that's all a Chrome-specific bug. What's happening is Chrome is internally tweaking the textbox's position when you drag the little handle on it, and part of that entails shifting the textbox to be on top of or underneath other elements.

Unfortunately, Chrome is choosing to shove it under the DText reference here. It's on my list of things to look at, but I may not get around to visiting this for several months.

Updated by anonymous

For all the issues with that, I'm using chrome and haven't ever seen it. How odd.

Not what i'm talking about. forum #162. If you click the post links, you can still go in and view the images by clicking the size link. We can basically go back through the forum, click the links, and see every sexyfur/tailheat/etc image ever posted. I guess no one else noticed that. Took me long enough.

Updated by anonymous

thats horrible D=

after you guys get this thing straightened out, would it be possible to bring back the deleted posts in the "my profile" section? when i start posting again and some get deleted, it would be nice to see the reason. not high priority or anything of course, but when ya get around to it?

Updated by anonymous

oh and also i remember when 2.2 barely came out, the thumbnail of a deleted image showed a bunch of colored lines, or something, not the image itself. this is when i was looking at my past comments to get rid of the trolling things i said when i barely joined. what happened to that feature?

Updated by anonymous

In the "quick and dirty" fix, viewing image thumbnails at all was disallowed. they're still working on something better.

Yes we're aware, or at least I was. I'm assuming Nrr would have been aware too since he's the one that came up with our current fix. What we have right now just simply prevents you from searching for status:deleted if you're not a mod or admin. Getting a better fix is definitely on the agenda, but first Nrr is very graciously taking the time to make sure e621 is set up like a proper website (version tracking, a beta website (http://e621.net/forum/show/9739), etc).

Related to what I said above. Again, the current fix simply prevents you from searching for status:deleted. Any method of viewing deleted images that doesn't involve actually searching for status:deleted will still work currently. This will eventually be resolved.

Someone tried to upload it before but failed and the image was broken, so it's blocked from being uploaded again. Send Varka a message or something and he can unblock it so it can be uploaded properly.

There's no need to contact Varka about this. Simply deleting the image's remaining metadata from the site is good enough, which I've done.

First stop whining and update your own damn blacklist you failure in life. And if that does not work, staple yourself in the face about a dozen times.

Yeah, for some reason, you can watch individual pictures (by linking to them from the comments list, etc.) just fine, but any kind of image search or tag search will result ine the "Failbooru"-message. Anyone else experiencing this?

Go tag the images then, instead of complaining, then your blacklist should probably work.

The same problem occurs when I try to go to the main Posts page as well.

Aparently not, all I can say is all we can do is sit back and be PATIENT and the site will eventually be up and running again!

I have to say... I'm kinda thankful that the search is down for a bit. I have been using this site for years and finally decided to make an account and I like the features of this site. Do we have any guesses or estimates of when the search bar will be working again?
