Topic: Humanoid Pokémon vs Pokémorph Anthro

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

those in the pics shown here look like they should be tagged humanized since they look more human than pokemon. whereas anthro may have hands (opposable thumbs),walk on 2 legs and look humanoid but would still be more pokemon than human in appearance otherwise.

compare this post #587853 to the bayleef pic in Wodahseht's post.

in regards to pokémorph, depending on the end result of the "morph" it could be either anthro or humanoid depending on whether or not it looks more like a human or pokemon vs the other.

Going to use ponies instead of pokémon for this example just because I'm more familiar with them and knew I could use a single character for all catagories:

Base species/classification - The way they are normally depicted:

Anthrofied - Picking up obvious human traits (hands, breasts, etc) but still retain many base traits:

Humanoidized - Almost completely human, but retains minor features of their original form (wings, ears, or tails for example):

Humanized - One hundred percent human. Any references to their original form are non-organic (tattoos, headband with ears, etc that aren't natural to them):

Granted that figuring out where exactly the line is between anthro and humanoid can be tricky, but most images are fairly easy to make a call on.

The ones I posted are human with at least one remaining trait of the base pokémon which makes them humanoid rather than human. The one you posted is anthro as it retains a number of identifying traits, just with a more human body.

That's an awesome summary of the basic forms, and very well laid out. Mind if I use that on the relevant wikis?

Broader than I thought. Today I discovered semi-anthro...

That tag's a useful way to describe stuff like these

Though, I'm starting to think it might need to be renamed to semi-feral (or something else) since it tends to get tagged for stuff like this as well:

post #680110 post #704319 post #741206

Which fit more under human/animal_humanoid.

Feel free. It's meant to help in any case. All it's missing is your semi-anthro examples. Keeping RD theme, maybe something like the following would work:

Not too certain on the examples on that one - only found semi-anthro today, so haven't had time to really assess what applies yet.

Yeah, semi-anthro sorta feels like it could go either direction - slightly more feral than pure human, or slightly more human than pure feral.

Maybe something like feraloid...sounds weird, but would correspond with humanoid at the opposite end of the scale.

Dunno, I'll think about it. Something else has most my attention at the moment.

Might work, definitely more usable than the current name. ...although I'm wondering why Google finds a lot of gym-related images if you search for 'feraloid'.

My main problem with that tag is that it's so subjective and hard to define. Just because it's drawn in a cartoony style, doesn't mean that it's not feral. And just because the character doesn't have human hands, doesn't mean that it's not anthro.

I feel that it'd better to just tag them as anthro or feral, instead of inserting a new hard-to-define category somewhere between them.

As for the pokemorph tag, why do pokemon have their own morph tag anyway? Should those be added for other franchises too, such as MLP?

While that's an useful tag, are there really no shorter names for it? It's bit of a mouthful, and seems like something that the users are going to typo a lot. ...hominized?

That was my thought when I stumbled on semi-anthro. Especially since the tag seems to be more about the depicted behavior rather than appearance.

I think it's mostly because unaltered pokemon can be humanoid, anthro, or feral. So having pokemorph tag there gives a quick and easy way to look for non-standard.

That's the only way I see it having worth to stay, but I also don't do much with pokemon so I consider my opinion to be low-weight there.

Just playing with what's already in use and, while a mouthful, it is pretty clear on what it means.
