So, I'm somewhat curious what sort of music the bunch of you listen to. What genres, if genre matters to you? Anything in particular you look for?

Personally, I like having a large mix of genres to listen to. And I usually like things that stand out in some way to me.

Depends on the song, but mostly Metal, Industrial, Rock. Some Pendulum and Prodigy sometimes.

Anything by Queens of the Stone Age's frontman, Ginger Elvis/Josh Homme. Songs For The Deaf is my favorite album, and their most recent one, Like Clockwork, is looking to be a classic. It's hard to single any one song out, yet I really enjoy Smooth Sailing and their animated short film , which features 4 edited songs and a full length My God Is The Sun at the end.

The collaboration between John Paul Jones, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl, Them Crooked Vultures, is pretty cool. Yup. Pretty cool.

Godspeed You Black Emperor is nice. Try to find a 320kbps download, though

Battles , Nicole Atkins , Death Grips (might take 2 or 3 listens), Björk , Lil Ugly Mane , Nine Inch Nails when Trent Reznor doesn't use lyrics, Chrome Sparks , obligatory Radiohead

and some guilty pleasures like Lady Gaga and Kanye West.

pretty much, as long as it sounds nice i'm not picky. i tend to not worry much about artist, genre, or where its from or the language (don't have to know german to like Rammstein for example. ;)). with a few small exceptions, afaik i haven't ever heard anything good or even decent out of the...screamo genre? or whatever the heck it was called. if i want something loud i have bands like dragonforce to choose from (REALLY like they're music).

David Bowie, Queen, Lady Gaga, Dragonforce, Rammstein, Avenged Sevenfold, Boom Boom Satellites, Daft Punk, Ozzy Osborne, Pendulum, The Prodigy... oo and Skálmöld (they're Baldur and Börn Loka albums are pretty good) to name a few of the artist/bands in my music folder, then theres all the animes and video game music i have in my music folder. >.> i try to keep an open mind on a lot of thing and that might play a part in my music tastes but like i said, i'm not picky when it comes to music just so long as it sounds good. :)

:/ 56.1GB, 10, 003 files. music takes up a good amount of space BUT at least its not FLAC files or else my collection would've been forced down to around a quarter of its current size. and i don't really care about the whole FLAC vs mp3 argument so spare me that dumb waste of time. >.> from what i've read online, FLAC really doesn't affect sound quality vs mp3 as much as some people would like to believe. it just keeps the file size enormous and helps prevent data loss mostly.

anyway, not trying to flame with that, just putting it out there on the off chance someone tries to bother me about it (which they probably will now that i've said something >.> sorry for that)

there is such a thing as good rap music but yeah, its no good imo when it winds up being little more than someone who "thinks" they're a musician when all they're doing is spewing profanity nonstop. that's not music, thats just someone spewing profanity constantly. less profanity and drugs and other stupid topics and i may like that genre more.

i do like some rap music but not much due to the above reason(s).

Damn right it is. And I recently bought a 128 GB MicroSD card to store it all in. I may reach 30,000 songs by the time that memory card is filled, and I hope that happens a few years from now.

I'm glad the music I listen to is mostly instrumentals. None of the garbage that is mostly played on the radio or dumped onto the internet.

Rap, rock, techno, and some other stuff and can't really categorize. I also like a lot of CAVE stuff.

Rock music, primarily pop rock and emo rock. My favorite band is Panic! at the Disco.

Crazy, I just clicked on the forums just now to start a thread like this.

I like good non-instrusive melodic dubstep and chillstep, but I'm fond of other genres such as Japanese music, rock, classical, orchestral, some rap, etc. I enjoy thinking that I appreciate a broad spectrum of music.

Been listening to a bunch of reggae recently. This is one of the more interesting things I've happened across. Also oddly furry-relevant, in a way.

multiple genres/aliases anyone? i've been keeping up with renard's music off and on since back when it was called vulpvibe. think i first came across this artist way back in '06 when he had some kind of "name your price" thing in a journal over at FA. all i really remember was he hadn't set a minimum price so i managed to get and print out like 5 or pages of download links for albums (at least 20-30+ links i'm sure) which have all been lost to time unfortunately (and when i lost 1-2 old computers >.>) but theres always that lapfox trax site and he even still has some old vulpvibe albums in the "free stuff" section if anyone wants that old stuff as well as the newer stuff you can find on that linked page.

Probably not his best, but the name of the album and song both amuse me, as does the song.

lol yeah, still got that one. oh and i just remembered 4 huge mix tracks he did that i still have. Painajainen (42 minutes long), Summer Jam 08 (55 minutes), Sweet-Ass Hardcore Mix (36 minute), and Trauma Megamix (50 minutes). if anyone wants i could add them as well as the cover art to my google drive then link it here. its pretty convenient how easy google has made sharing stuff like that.

edit: ah, why not? i think i'll just go ahead and dump my whole lapfox folder there. lol got a lot of stuff i could put on that drive as a backup. can't put my whole music folder on that drive though, that'd be 56.2gb and the drive only has 15gb free space. :/

only thing by mega ran i have is a track or 2 in the album: MM25 Mega Man Rocks. pretty good, i just haven't bothered to check his music out much yet, might look into that later.

as for the other 2, i know Dir en Grey from they're OP themes for the Grappler Baki anime (great martial arts anime. one of my faves of that type.). as for rammstein, i have several of they're albums downloaded.

My favorite by Arkona (besides Na Moey Zemle, because that's sort of a six-band collaboration and I don't know if it should count) is probably Duren'. Glad I introduced you to something you like though!

Harmony of Heroes its a super smash bros. fan album. pretty much done in the way they release albums over at ocremix. its own website, nice art, and great music.

2 tracks in particular that i like and would suggest checking out are, A K.Rool Pub Crawl and M.O.T.H.E.R.F.U.o.O.E.R! (thats the actual track name lol). the first of these 2 is based on the final boss tracks for the first donkey kong country and i think the 2nd is based on either Mother 2 or the series in general but i'm not sure. the 2nd of these tracks also has that song from Mother 2 (i think its the tune you play against the final boss) starting at the 2:05 mark.

never played any of the mother games myself (1. they're rather freaky in general from what i've seen of them and 2. mother 2's final boss...do i really want to play through an rpg only to wind up basically doing an alien abortion at the end? thats kinda a disturbing idea for a final boss fight imo.) but that is a rather nice tune.

theres also an extra album with tracks not included in the main one on that site too, its called final smash.

Not sure what else to call it, but "video game music", specifically instrumentals and/or opera-esque pieces. I just love the feel of these kinds of tracks, whether they be "sad" or "climatic". Vocals and such are nice and all, but overall I listen to music for the "music". Standard instrumentals, classical, and alike are just as good, but the video game variations tend to go the extra step. And when those few games are bold enough to make these tracks for their final boss fights, it becomes godlike...

That album is amazing. It is also how I found SteamPianist, who helped with that album, and made the song I posted earlier on this post.

yeah, aside from that i usually grab any free album i want from ocremix soon as they release it. i've got around 30 of the 93 albums they've released, including a few of the older ones they no long have torrents of such as Bad Dudes & Friends - Castlevania Symphony of the Night - Resurrection.

i'm not sure if i would agree with that opinion.

i'd say Clash on the Big Bridge is best but then again, i'm a bit biased when it comes to FF music as Gilgamesh has always been, by far, one of my favorite recurring bosses. ^.^

hes gone from a potential 1-hit victory (FFV: eat X-Zone ya dumb noob! lol) to being somewhat ridiculous when it comes to intro scenes (FFXII: *enkidou appears* ... *gilgamesh...over jumps the bridge entirely* *facepalm* lol) then later becoming quite the impressive foe in his 2nd fight of FFXII. i'd comment on his appearance in XIII-2 but after the first XIII game i'm still not entirely sure if i should give it a try. :/ having a fight with him as dlc does make it tempting though (as does his newest battle theme).

anyone here like those old Sega Tunes music CD's that SEGA sometimes released with some old genesis games? i don't have the CD nor do i remember where i downloaded them from BUT i do have the music from a couple of the Sega Tunes CD's.

there was also a different "bonus CD" released with this game here in the US but after hearing some of it myself...i wouldn't recommend it. imo, with less tracks, Howard Drossin does FAR better.

edit: just checked out ocremix newest album (another one for one of those fighting game tournaments), CEO 2015: Champion, and...ew, NO! i could tell from the first track, DO. NOT. WANT! it was slow rap music. why are all the tracks slow music? this one is nothing like the 3 apex albums they did. it's all slow, not very energetic overall imo.

oh well, to each they're own i suppose, i'm sure some people may enjoy it. i like rap when it's not constant profanity (some is ok, depending on the song, but not the whole song) but not slow rap. at least, not as slow as seen in this album anyway.

Though I tend to avoid music from the current millennium.

As for video game music, I grew up playing Rayman 2 and enjoying its funky soundtrack as well as tracks from the earlier Command and Conquer game series. Oh the memories. :)

come to think of it, that reminds me of this album i found called dark rock back while i was playing the mmo, warframe (the game got to the point eventually that the graphics were too much for my laptop. sad that, it was like a hybrid of ninja gaiden + first person shooter, a real fun mix.). >.> it's one of those albums i had a hard time tracking down (the game had, i think, 1 track from the album) but it's pretty good.

Always brings a tear to my eye. Must have put hundreds of hours into that game. xD

got C&C Generals: Zero Hour here. :) thats certainly a good RTS series. that generals challenge in zero hour gets quite lengthy after a while though. you pick one general to play as (basically choosing your specialty...i typically go for the tank general and those emperor tanks. lol bring on the slow yet VERY powerful tanks.) then fight through the rest of them all leading up to the 5-star Tibetan general wielding all the powers of the lesser generals. man, it can take over 3-5 hours on that one fight alone but it sure is fun.

another game you might like is AI War by Arcen Games

warning, AI War can literally make your computer weep if left unchecked. a single campaign on easiest difficulty can also easily last you a week or so. lol you can easily reach over 10k units across the universe map eventually if things get dragged out long enough. especially if you come across this one AI building. i don't remember it's name but if you get near it and attack and/or try hacking the building it'll start spawning non-stop waves of AI controlled ships with each wave stronger than the last. if that building isn't destroyed immediately upon being discovered it can easily wind up spawning enough units to crash the game. iirc that even happened to one of the devs computers one time so beware.

Loved C&C Generals as well. Trying out the differnet abilities of the generals was always a lot of fun. I usually go for the 'Turtle' strategy: Sit tight, build a huge army and then strike once to win. xD

hmmm...how does that "turtle strategy" work vs a nuke? oh wait, that just reminded me of something else. curse you, nuke general, stop leaving you're spare warheads in dumptrucks you lazy *insert profanity here*. wouldn't be the first time my tanks go to attack his base only to shoot or run over a dump truck and *boom* nuclear warhead.

Haha. So true. :) The games also made learning English as a second language more fun than any English class in school.
Have all the C&C games up to Generals on one CD and I think I will play through some of them again for nostalgia thanks to you. xD
I miss the glory days of RTS's. Seems like everyone is into FPS's these days.
