I've recently obtained the Bayonetta Original Soundtrack after playing through the first game on the Wii U. Long story short, that soundtrack almost toppled my number 0ne pick for best video game music ever (Kingdom Hearts).

Agreed. They certainly are fun to play as.
As for the soundtrack, I don't remember any songs from C&C Generals as well as I do for Red Alert 2 or Tiberium Sun.

demon's crest remixes it's not that different from the normal tracks (in fact, i think it's mainly just a medley ofthe different tracks) but the artwork fits nicely.

makes me wonder where i could find more pics like those seen in this video. sure it's dark, gothic, and maybe a tad morbid but overall it's actually pretty nice.

I think a lot of the paintings are from the medieval times depicting the plague. I've seen a few of them in my history books.

I completely agree. As long as the song is good I really don't care what language it is sung in. Since I am trying to learn German in my spare time, I use songs from bands like Kraftwerk and Rammstein to help me along. :)

As far as OSTs go, I'd suggest the Ecco the Dolphin OST.

I never actually got all that far in the game because some of the music creeped my younger self out. And that requires an impressive amount of atmosphere for a 16 bit soundtrack.

There are too many good ones there for me to really suggest any in particular.

Besides that I also found UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List which contains, among many other things, a bunch of various genres of music to look up. Many people, I guess, would classify that as "world music", but I hate that categorization with a passion.

I've found a few things so far, but I thought this sounded particularly interesting, and I liked it. It's Mongolian throat singing (Hoomii).

...Yup. I have all three of those Black Mages albums. I'll most likely listen, sort, and then transfer to my smartphone the FF music that isn't directly from the main games (until I play them anyway, and I've currently played/beaten Final Fantasy I to V).

So, that would include the tribute albums, Distant Worlds, drammatica, mixes and remixes, guitar versions, symphonic suites, piano collections, anniversary albums, etc.

Stuff like this is just unbelievably fucking cool.......speaking of global empires, Xarhanga was a great portuguese band from the early 70’s who started out as Sabbath-styled proto-metal before eventually shifting to more progressive pastures –– their sole album Bota-Fora was a tribute to the dissolution of the african colonial holdings and has some of the most varied and interesting sounds of the era, like a mix of european classicism and ritualistic tribal dances.

I can't listen exclusively to any sort of music, and game music, despite it's amazing diversity, is no exception, so massive playlists like that post deter me more than they help me, unfortunately. Not that I don't find the collection quite impressive, of course, because I do.

Unrelated to that, but related to the earlier thing, I'm seriously going to have to either find an emulator for Ecco or find a way to plug my genesis into a slightly more modern television, because I'm getting some pretty massive nostalgia pangs right now.

oh yeah, not spoiling anything but...have fun with the atlantis maze in one of the ecco games (i don't remember which exactly) after the alien queen. iirc i once saw a let's play that literally took hours just to get through that final section. VERY long and hard lvl for a genesis game, that's for sure.

Okay, so for the sake of ease, I'm just going to try to divide things up into larger categories as best I can (there is overlap between styles, which made some things difficult). That said, that's not how I listen to music - I always listen on shuffle so I don't remain in one category for any length of time. So I'd encourage bouncing around between the categories a bit, shuffle-style.

Well see here's the weird thing. I actually listen to blues all the time. I love the sound of the blues. So I don't know how I only have three blues songs.

I guess I got it into my head that I was listening to too much blues, actually, and so I stopped searching for new songs in the genre for a while. I guess... I just didn't save any of the ones I liked? Or I enjoyed a lot of them but they rarely had the punch to them that makes me remember "save that!". I'm not sure.

Still, I appreciate the suggestions here. I'll get to them pretty shortly. Right now there's actually a... Well I think it's a subgenre of blues, from what I've managed to find, that I've been meaning to look into for a while... Jug Band Music. And seems like as good of a time as any. So listening to some Memphis Jug Band Blues right now.

Hey, I appreciate that. Having a big diversity in the music I listen to is what makes music enjoyable to me.

Though there are many genres that are underrepresented. I don't have any soul, gospel, R&B, or funk, for instance. And of course, there are a lot of traditional styles from around the world that are hard to even find examples of sometimes.

I'm proud of the variation that I have so far, but I guess what I'm saying is the more I look into it, the more I find genres that I haven't heard, which is honestly pretty cool.
