I want to know which artists you think are the best here on e621. This is my first post, so please inform me if I am violating a rule on the forums by making this.

Best are the ones that don't suddenly rage quit, deleting hundreds of pictures that have been public for years.

I'm actually surprised by how popular Darkmirage is because, looking at his art, I'm underwhelmed, considering his popularity. Additionally, I feel like a lot of his older artwork has more charm than his newer work, where it feels like he's almost stagnated, in a way, and he's not going out of his comfort zone. Not saying he's not good, mind you. I have some things of his favorited, after all. But I wouldn't put him at the top of a "best artist" list, personally.

I'm going to have to agree on H0rs3 though. I'm not a big fan of 3d artwork - I have it blacklisted, in fact - but he has my respect as an artist. I've seen some things by him that are genuinely impressive.

Etheross has my respect for his mastery of anatomy. No other artist on e621 that I can think of can make dragons seem so realistic in that sense. He does an excellent job of understanding skeletal and muscle structure.

I also respect Insomniacovrlrd quite a bit. I feel like he's one of the artists who is never comfortable with where he's at, and is always trying to stretch and improve himself.

I also think Kajinchu is worth mentioning, but here I'm probably showing my bias based on the sort of material he's created. Nonetheless, I do think he's a good artist, though there isn't any single aspect I can point to at which he excels. His anatomy isn't as good as Etheross's, but part of that can be attributed to the odd anatomy of Pokemon in general. If I had to pick something in particular, I'd have to go with his overall composition, and perspective. He does a good job with more difficult angles and viewpoints, and his overall composition (color, positioning, contrast) is generally quite appealing (at least, for full pieces). Like I said though, I can't be sure how much of this is a result of my own biases based on content.

Also I'm going to mention Whimsydreams here, because I've seen her draw, and the speed at which she can create an image is astounding. Apparently she has a background in animation, so that makes sense, but still, in terms of particular talents, that one is worth mentioning. Though my bias is definitely showing here, I'm sure. Monster Hunter + Pokemon + Female/Female content + Ferals.

Ratte and Tokaido

applebeans, crooked-trees, mot, ratte etc are the 'best'

Nezumi is certainly up there. Been Going since 2006, able to expand into almost any material, draws frequently, communicates with their fanbase, instantly recognizable and has inspired many popular artists today. Not to mention their doujins which are excellently priced and come with censor patches, something most Japanese artists don't bother with.

Oh yeah, Nezumi should definitely count for the Eastern side

There are some very popular artists with their own style on pixiv who specialize in stuff like kemono, mlp, pokemon etc

The most popular ones are on e6..somewhere

Ricegnat is my personal favorite.

I wouldn't consider the subjectivity of some of the content when the question is in regards to quality. And I'd have to say that when you get to the point where people instantly recognize your style and artists actually study it, quality become much less subjective. Regarding Curt Sibling, I'd say the link on their wiki page speaks volumes to their work.

That said, I'm also going to say Sparrow, who is unarguably very skilled, though I wouldn't say I'm a fan, and Sunibee.

I would say there are plenty of very good, a few exceptional artists featured here; it all comes down to what style, or fandom perhaps, you are into.

There are artists who specialize in anthros, ferals, anthros on ferals, aliens, robots, cyborgs, 3D rendering, et. al.

The list can go on and on, just as do the niches, kinks and fandoms, from video game characters, to ponies, to bestiality. If you can name a preference, I am sure we as a community can point you towards very good works!

But really, what do you mean by "best"? Personal favorite artists whose works are available here, or were you asking for a short list of objectively and comparatively outstanding artists?

Also, when you say "here on e621", you may have unwittingly touched upon the fact that most posts on e621 are uploaded by regular users and not artists. Having said that, artists are increasingly uploading their own works here or otherwise maintaining a presence in their works' comments or elsewhere on the site. In this context, one could say those artists are "here on e621", whereas artists who don't maintain their own presence on e621 would then not be "here on e621".

Objectively, I'm a poor student of art and that may not ever change. The best I can do is provide a condensed list of artists that I watch on e621 who consistently deliver IMO:

It's good to see, I think, that I have the same issues with the title question now as I had two years less two days ago. Unlike before, I can now give more specific reasoning for the artists that come to mind. In adding missing tags to posts of the artists that I watch I have learned to differentiate some common measures of quality between them. Really, adding missing tags is secondary to me roughly categorizing these artists to update my profile.

Here's "some" notables I've been following:

I enjoy zp92, gideon, sindoll, sligarthetiger and herro

and matt_rat and rick_griffin get honorable mentions mattrat for making me laugh and rick for his his adorable artstyle

As someone said above, I don't think we could / should talk about "best" in an absolute way. Surely there are artist that are best "for me" or any other individual.

Surely, there must be in the statistics in e6 one or few artists that have more favs, or up-votes... but, are they really the "best" for an "academical" point of view?. Reviewing the forum I have seen topics that complain that some unusually great, great art posted here is less favored that some categories churned out porn kinks of not high quality

(and without giving exaples, I agree with that).

Still, I will give my personal list of artist that I like, that I could recall (sorry if I fail to remember well, or transcribe bad a name or two).

I personally have not posted in e6 yet ... but I have spent more than 8 years visiting this site, and I want to mention and thank some authors that have made me see beauty when I needed...

Have you checked the DText help page, that is linked right above the Submit button when you comment?

You can link specific tags just by typing [[tag_name]] while thumbnail images can be created by typing thumb #XXXXXXX (replace the Xs with the post's ID).
