Topic: Tag Alias: bluntwhiskey -> kayla-na

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Well, Kayla might do it for reasons, like Onta/Doxy. *shrug* Kayla-Na, we summon Thee! What is Thine opinion?

Updated by anonymous

She uses bluntwhiskey exclusively for pony and kayla-na mostly for furry when she uploads art here, so these should remain separate, I think.

On the other hand, if they were one tag, it would be easy to search "kayla-na mlp" or "kayla-na -mlp". And since it's no secret that these are the same artist, there's no issue with 'blowing someone's cover'.

While true, if someone wants to separate them on purpose that may be up to them. Her choice I guess. *shrug*

This, I agree with the alias.

This is why I attempted to summon her. It's not just your average tag where we can easily discuss aliasing it away, because the artist is an actual user here and sorta has the final say on how they want to be tagged. :P

I don't want my pony art lumped with the rest of my stuff, that's why I made that new alias in the first place.

So ya, I'd imagine no alias then

Same outcome as last time :p

Yup. Now all I'm left wondering is how a 29 post account made in 2010 got Contributor. o.O

It's another artist dude :I

Asking nicely probably also helped. Speaking of which, I drew an mlp picture a while back, can I get contributor too please?

I'm not sure if it's still done nowadays but contributor status is/was also given directly to artists that upload their stuff to the site.

lol maybe I should upload all the stuff I've drawn then.

Yar, but, according to the artist tag thing, Twilightshi is just a writer for someone else's comic, total of 7 posts. We've people who post quite a bit more than that of their own arts without contributor. This is where the confusion is.

They likely never brought it up then. The staff REALLY like it when artists submit their own work here so would likely change stuff if brought up.

Also I roll my eyes at "just a writer"

Meh, I actually agree with 123easy there.

Actually, an artist can request to be put into "Contributor" level

Hey admins, this got approved despite this thread.
And now Kayla doesn't want their pony art posted here because of it.
Alias probably should be removed.

Updated by anonymous

Why was this approved? She made it clear she wants them separate. Alias deleted, cleanup required.

She commented here, saw that admins agreed, and still raged and wants to pull it over an obvious overlook?

Obvious mistake is obvious man

*quick look at her DA shows her losing the name and going back to Kayla-na there (still remains on FA), maybe that is why someone silly thought the two should be merged? *shrug* dunno

Nope. TheHuskyK9 wasn't admin back then, so no admin (at the time) chimed in on this.

the only reason this was aliased is the mod who did it was mass approving aliases and didn't look at the discussion first

Anyway, as far as I can see, there's nothing to clean up. Since everything was taken down in takedown #2244.

I've been informed that she's already wiped all her pone stuff so dont bother with the cleanup.

Well teeeechnically her request was for "any submission that's marked with my name (Kayla-Na), and the tag (My Little Pony or Friendship is Magic)", which wouldn't be the case now since this tag alias was corrected. Maybe someone should contact her and let her know that it was fixed and we can use her alternate name now on her MLP art if she wants?

I PM'd her(him?).
Was around yesterday, we'll have to wait and see if it's ok to put the ponies back with the alternate name.

That....seems like a problematic way of doing things. Especially since alias suggestions are often disputed or amended in the discussion threads...Huh. *head scratch*

Also, the reason ippiki is mentioning that is that we discovered the culprit and discussed that this was not acceptable admin behavior :)

Good to know actually. I don't know how my other comment came across, but I hope it didn't sound like criticism. I mostly just found it disturbing to see that it happened, nice to see it acknowledged and it's a welcome relief to know it's already been handled. Thank you for being so on top of it. Frankly, that is reassuring.

Here's my comment I left on the post before it was deleted, explaining why this happens:

This was definitely not intentional. Unfortunately there's practically a wall of separation between the alias / implication approval queues, and the area where those suggestions are actually commented on. If the queue ever stacks up really bad, an admin may just go through the queue looking at nothing but the "Reason" column for each suggestion and making a snap judgment based on that alone (such as "X and Y are the same artist"), and not actually spend the time checking the threads where they've been discussed because it's a very time consuming task to do so.

Unfortunately, it's been difficult making sure the alias/implication queue gets constant attention. I've basically been handling almost all alias/implication approvals myself for the past couple of months, and before me it was RD that was handling almost all of them for at least several months (and was the one that accidentally approved the alias in question). I try to make sure I always dig up the relevant forum threads if I'm not 100% sure about an alias/implication just by looking at it, but it's a system that definitely needs a lot of improvement...

That would make it difficult to access the threads from that screen. Really helps explain how it works from the other side of the fence too, makes a lot of sense how it occurred. But isn't there a way a direct link to the discussion thread could be added to the alias/implications page and have it right there next to the reason? That way all the info an admin needs to review the alias is right at hand. It seems like the site already automatically generates the forum thread when an alias is created, so it seems possible it could add the link to the alias suggestion for handy reference. It seems like a small addition that would be incredibly useful. /just an idea

Yeah it's something that's been suggested several times now by at least a few different admins. Not sure when/if it's going to happen. =/ There's simply higher priority things to work on.

This was by far not the first time this has happened, and considering how much work these cause, I'd say that it should have a pretty high priority. I must've spent at least 60 hours cleaning up after the pussy_juice -> pussy implication, not to mention all the others...and there's still some broken implications that never got fixed.

It'd probably be a good idea to implement it, before something really hard to clean gets accidentally accepted.

Got a response from Kayla-Na re: my PM.
Just a "thanks" for bringing the mix up to the attention of the admins, and it being fixed.
Not sure if that means it's ok to post the pony art under the alternate name, or not.
I'm going to bed.
