Topic: Unclear/no TWYS rules on art style

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I'm unclear on how far the "tag what you see" rules go in regards to art style and copyright.

Plenty posts tagged with Zootopia and Disney don't contain anything that clearly implies either tag (and I'm sure other copyright tags have similar posts).
Some examples I can still find:
1. https://e621.net/posts/2420461
2. https://e621.net/posts/2420050 (no Judy here imho)
3. https://e621.net/posts/2344566 (tried to remove the tags but that was reverted. only some building structures in the first frame look like they might warrant Zootopia.)

The wiki didn't help much with this question. As far as I understand it the only exemption from TWYS is character names can be taken from the source.
If and how the art style can warrant copyright tags is not explained (or I didn't find it).

I'd like to get some qualified (admin/mod) feedback on 3. for example. Tagging it with Zootopia or not depends on how one interprets the TWYS rule - whats the right interpretation?

On the second point, character tags are exempt from TWYS. If the character is meant to be Judy Hopps, then they are tagged Judy Hopps. This is due to it being nearly impossible to uphold such a system with characters, since they can look identical but not be the same character.

to "2."
Okay, good point, but https://e621.net/wiki_pages/1684 states "2) The post must have at least SOME evidence of the claimed character and can not have any evidence that CONFLICTS with what the external source is saying ..."

I'd argue that some other eg. Disney bunnies do qualify as "conflicting evidence"
Lucky Jack (for his much larger pink part of his muzzle/snout/mouth/nose)
Or some bunny from the Bambi movie(s) because of the grey ears without black tips (Mr. Hare ).

Plus conflicting evidence isn't even necessary and the fur color isn't enough "SOME evidence" imho.

Number #2 is clearly alternate color Br'er Rabbit. So the Disney tag applies.
I don't see how it's taggable as Judy, though.

Let me clarify that I'm not arguing that the character is Judy, I'm just pointing out that the character tags are mostly exempt from TWYS. I won't argue whether or not that's Judy, though I don't recognize the character as her I'm also a part of Homestuck and recognize cosplay as just grey face paint...

Though the forums aren't a bad place to ask this, you could also ask the staff and/or active users directly in the #tag-discussions part of our discord.

You wrote this earlier: On the second point, character tags are exempt from TWYS. If the character is meant to be Judy Hopps, then they are tagged Judy Hopps.

Which is incorrect. Recheck tag what you see. It mainly applies to ambiguous cases, such as partially visible character. Character cannot be tagged if there's conflicting visual information, no matter what the artist says.

Which is why I corrected myself, your quote reply contains my correction.
