Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: slit -> slit_(disambiguation)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #55119 slit -> slit_(disambiguation) has been rejected.

Reason: The tag slit is in a very messy state, with its own wiki page discourages the use.

It must be better to transform it in a disambiguation and encourage the use of genital_slit and other *_slit tags like slit_pupils, slit_(wound) and slit_nostrils.

I'm pretty sure almost every single use result of slit -genital_slit is the tag genital_slit missing. But since the name is very generic, I think disambiguating would be a good idea. There's even some small discussion about it topic #27293.

EDIT: The tag alias slit -> slit_(disambiguation) (forum #319952) has been rejected by @Rainbow_Dash.

The bulk update request #1530 is active.

remove implication genital_slit (33104) -> slit (0)
change category slit_(disambiguation) (13) -> invalid

Reason: Required unimply to disambiguate slit.
Preemptively moving the slit disambiguation to invalid.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1530 (forum #319956) has been approved by @slyroon.

The bulk update request #7148 is pending approval.

mass update slit_(disambiguation) -> genital_slit
remove alias slit (0) -> slit_(disambiguation) (13)

Reason: I actually don't think this needs a disambiguation, to be honest. Basically every current result for this tag is genital_slit, even if you search slit -genital_slit. This is very common furry terminology, much like knot or sheath even though those are also technically ambiguous terms. Nobody is using this tag to refer to slit wounds or mammary slits or whatever. They just aren't.

This is a disambiguation tag with 32,000 posts and a single clear meaning, nobody is going to manually clean that up and it doesn't even really need to be disambiguated at all. Furries all know what it means.

edit: followup alias slit -> genital_slit

The request to alias slit -> genital_slit has been rejected before, see topic #27293.
The thing with "slit" is that people mostly refer it to either genital slits or cloacas.

In addition, aliasing a disambiguation tag directly to a valid tag is not the way to fix it. It's just sweeping the mess under the rug and hoping nobody notices it.
If you believe the 32k posts all refer to the same kind of slit, then suggest a mass update instead.

Well that was 3 years ago, and I don’t really believe the same conditions apply today. Previously rejected aliases can always be reconsidered, especially after so much time has passed.

What mess?
The results for slit_(disambiguation) seem to be >99% genital_slit. Genuine mistags look to be very rare based on what I’m seeing - likely not much more than the amount of rope_knot/knot mistags, if even that. I haven’t even seen a true cloaca anywhere in the first few pages based on a cursory search. This should be a fairly safe alias.

See slit solo female. And in my understanding, that search has been repeatedly cleaned out in the past.

Edit: slit_(disambiguation) -male -ambiguous_gender -herm gives a better view of the mess. Looks like that combo hasn't been cleaned at any recent point.

Similar results for knot solo female, sheath solo female, and remarkably worse results for balls solo female for some reason, so I don’t think that’s a slit-specific issue. Rather, more of a general gender tagging mess. A lot of what I’m seeing in slit_(disambiguation) -male -ambiguous_gender -herm appears to be characters with an “ambiguous slit” - especially ferals - which should probably just be switched over to male genital_slit or female pussy.
However, disambiguation doesn’t seem to be accomplishing anything here since even the non-ambiguous genital_slit -male -ambiguous_gender -herm has a similar mess. So, just like with balls and sheath and knot, seems to just be our gender tagging woes in general.

Ideally, disambiguation should be for distinguishing unrelated items that share a name - like bow_(weapon) versus bow_ribbon or whatever. Virtually every instance of this tag is referring to the same idea, but it seems to be just confusion over what qualifies as a genital_slit. For the most part, it looks like a pussy but is lore-tagged as a slit, or it actually is a slit and the character’s gender is mistagged. The disambiguation isn’t actually accomplishing anything in this case, though, as either lore-tagged genitals or mistagged gender need to be fixed regardless.
