The bulk update request #3904 is active.

create alias ray_gun (0) -> raygun (492)

Reason: Personally I prefer it with the underscore, but raygun already has an implication.

Does anyone know why raygun and laser_gun have been awarded separate implications to ranged_weapon? What's the difference?

If I had to guess, I presume ranged_weapon is for real-world weapons, or at least weapons of the current era.

I don't know if laser guns, as they are portraied in sci-fi and such, is avaible at the current moment.

We could create a tag, directed_energy_weapon, for laser guns, rayguns, phasers, and so on.

Laser_gun/raygun implications appear to have been applied in topic #4786. Regardless, alias ray_gun -> raygun is good.

There's no need to alias phaser away. Unlike the other two, they have a canonical design that can be referred to when tagging images. The problem with laser_gun and ray_gun is that the range of things they could possibly describe is both large and entirely overlapping.

You just know there's a gun named Ray in some post...

Not entirely overlapping. I’ve seen depictions of ray guns that shoot a sort of zigzaggy lightning bolt kinda thing.
