Topic: Aliasing away a few of the more redundant dark_* and light_* tags (BUR)

create alias dark_brown_tuft (1) -> brown_tuft (567)
create alias dark_brown_back (0) -> brown_back (100)
remove implication dark_countershading (2) -> countershading (156667)
remove implication dark_countershading (2) -> dark_body (32691)
remove implication light_countershading (7) -> countershading (156667)

create alias dark_forest (1) -> forest (53766)
create alias dark_woods (1) -> forest (53766)
create alias dark_circles (3) -> eye_bags (2559)
create alias dark_glasses (2) -> glasses (209554)
create alias dark_feces (0) -> feces (14592)

Reason: Dark brown is brown. Dark cyan is cyan, which is aliased to blue. It's possible we might want to get rid of [color]_arms, [color]_face, etc. altogether, maybe they're too specific? Not sure. But at the very least we certainly don't need dark brown versions too.
Dark_countershading has the same meaning as reverse_countershading, and reverse is the actual term as used by wikipedia. Light countershading is similar, in general countershading always refers to a lighter colored underside, which is why reverse countershading is different.
Dark forest (+ dark woods) means nothing. Most of them are forest + night. There is an identifiable location in the warriors_(cats) series called the Dark Forest with a couple posts, but if there was a tag for that it should be called dark_forest_(warriors) or something.
Dark circles is another name for eye_bags and all the posts tagged with it are showing eye bags.
Does dark_glasses mean sunglasses? Does it mean black frames? Who knows! It's been tagged on both.
Dark feces is the default. If your feces isn't dark, you should probably see a doctor.

Regarding potentially aliasing away all the dark_* and light_* tags including the more commonly used dark_body and light_body trees, personally I can see both sides to that. Please feel free to share if you have opinions one way or the other.

Part 2:
alias dark_countershading -> reverse_countershading
alias light_countershading -> countershading

create alias dark_purple_skin (0) -> purple_skin (17941)
create alias dark_purple_body (0) -> purple_body (151410)

Reason: Light sky is day or possibly sunset.
Dark sky is night or storm or overcast etc.
Light underbelly is countershading.
Most lab coats are white, it's the default.
I also found light_sub_dark_dom which really seems like it should be a set if anything, not a tag, but I have no idea what it could be aliased to. Maybe just nuked?

Reading this, this sounds racist, but regardless if you cannot find an appropriate tag to alias to then it can be aliased to invalid_tag.

dark sky

Ambiguous. Use one of these instead:

<color>_sky - only for uncommon colors, such as purple_sky
night
overcast

Those should probably just be manually retagged to night or overcast.... *gets on it*.
Other than that, I think that makes sense. Dark and light should be night and day, but going forward, get changed to sky to make sure people get a hint.

Shouldn't skies be light by default? Since night implies the opposite. Seems that all but this post was best tagged sky if true:
post #293682

This one I'm not sure on. Hard to tell what's going on, especially with no frame of reference.
post #3685285
post #3595601 And again...

post #2481014 https://e621.net/posts/2481187#comment-7340514 These two?

Thank you for retagging! But my thought with the alias is to future-proof, since people might try to tag more things as light/dark sky in the future. With an alias that could be prevented in advance.

Yeah, just give me time to fix dark_sky. I guess it should be done before the alias goes through.

post #2339326 Hmm, is that an eclipse? If so, then sunlight technically applies since it's solar? Not really 'overcast', just has a lot of clouds. You can clearly see behind them. I need to search for cloud and cloudy on the forums... I think there was actually a difference. A cloud = cloud A sky full of them but not overcast = cloudy?

post #2281826 Not actually sure this is night. There is a theme going back to Pokemon Emerald/Ruby/Sapphire where dragons fight in a storm (created by the conflict, too).

post #2077223 Soooooo many tags. Too hard to verify because it's a video as well. :(

post #1953673 Sun but dark sky? :/

Other than ones I linked, they seem to all be done!

Are you sure those shouldn't be tan? Some are more tan than brown. I guess it's subjective.

:edit:
Went ahead and fixed the ones that probably shouldn't be brown_hair.

Orange_hair examples:
post #3980561 Not remotely brown?
post #3945299 Same color as above
post #2782033 Orange and somewhat golden but not as gold as the body.
post #3550289 More orange

Others:
post #1860823 Seems red, not brown? At least it shouldn't be 'light_brown'. It's too dark!
post #2517521 Almost purple? Yeah, this tag is bjorked. XD
post #3235410 LOL, (golden) blonde! Whyyyyyy?!

post #3854526 Isn't that strawberry?
post #3796769 Gray with just a hint of brown?
post #3729637 Similar gray hair
post #3639297 Not sure if red or brown
post #3501138 LOL, too many hair colors.
post #2843687 Hmm, tan_hair?
post #2794146 Also tan?
post #2737933 Red?

I wonder if this shouldn't have been an disambiguation, instead... Some weren't even 'light' yet brown!
Until someone gets to the light_brown_body tags, we shouldn't move forward with approval.

I know I'm 2 months late lol but I just went through light_brown_body and removed all the ones I didn't think were brown enough

Also adding a couple more aliases to the BUR

Updated

The bulk update request #5213 is active.

change category light_sub_dark_dom (46) -> invalid

Reason: And a separate BUR for light_sub_dark_dom since I'm still not 100% sure what to do with it. A lot of the images in the tag right now don't even involve dominance/submission in my opinion. Is this alright, changing its category to invalid?

light_sub dark_sub ain't much better? :/ It should probably just be submissive [dominant]] and tag body types? I guess I'll get to that.

post #3307115 is rated safe, so not sure how it got any sub/dom tags. Probably from the fact that it's a comic. Might want to check the comic's other tags in case of copypasta errors.

About half-way done.

Updated

create alias dark_cyan_fur -> blue_fur

Should be aliased to teal_fur, though the unalias for that tag hasn’t gone through yet. I’d hold off on this one for now.

Revisited this:
https://e621.net/posts?tags=light_brown_body+-light_body Done
https://e621.net/posts?tags=light_brown_hair+-light_hair Done
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_sky+-night+-overcast Looks mostly done? 10 results left to go through. I guess these get the colors treatment. https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_sky+-night+-overcast+-grey_sky+-red_sky+-solar_eclipse+-brown_sky+-purple_sky Done
https://e621.net/posts?tags=light_sky+-day+-sunset Done
Lab coats: Without light/white clothing With light clothing With white clothing Yeah, this is one of THOSE tags.
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_red_eyes+-dark_eyes Done
Dark yellow in this case is brown. Oops!
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_purple_ears+-dark_ears Done
The rest have 0 results and thus don't need manual updates of split (or incorrect!) tags.

The original BUR in this thread:

https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_hair+-dark_hair
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_body+-dark_body
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_spots+-dark_spots

https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_arms+-dark_arms
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_face+-dark_face
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_nipples+-dark_nipples
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_cheeks+-dark_cheeks
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_inner_ear+-dark_inner_ear
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_muzzle+-dark_muzzle
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_nose+-dark_nose

https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_tuft+-dark_tuft
https://e621.net/posts?tags=dark_brown_back+-dark_back
I wonder if some of those don't make sense, like aren't inner ears generally dark in drawings?
