There's quite the never-ending supply of work that can be done.

Posts

  • Upload content. e621 would be nothing without the art that gets archived here - find content that isn't already here and upload it, preferably with permission from the artist. howto:upload

Tagging

  • The stickied tag projects thread (topic #23571) may have some stuff that's easy to start with, but it's not all that frequently posted in.
    • If you have Discord, the #tag-discussions channel is quite active.
  • An easy place to start tagging is replacing ambiguous tags with a valid replacement.
  • There's a lot of bad tagging that needs to be fixed, for example male female solo -comic -multiple_images - a solo image shouldn't be tagged with more than one gender tag, it's either not solo or has an incorrect gender tag added.
  • Some posts just need more tags - tagme and tagcount:<10.

Tag Relationships

  • There's a forum topic for alias and implication requests - here you can vote whether the proposed requests should be approved or not.
    • The aliases, implications and bulk update requests pages give an alternative way to view this information.
    • All aliases/implications that are still pending from 2017 are scheduled to be deleted on the 1st of July (topic #38731) - you can look through the list and bump any that you think are worth saving.

Translation

  • If you speak any other languages, there may be content that you can translate into English. e621:translation

Development

  • e621 is open source, so you could contribute to the GitHub if you're interested in development.
    • Even without development experience you can report any bugs you find in topic #25734 (or in the GitHub issues)

you can always create your own tagging project around a more niche/underutilized tag you like.

I can recommend that you start relatively small, and if you do want to do a big tag project, try to tackle a smaller part of the whole. for example, if for some reason you want to do something totally unreasonable, like "posts that lack eye color tags", rather than just trying to work through every single post try starting with just the posts under one copytag, the task might still seem large but being able to actually see the page count go down after every 100-something posts you clean really helps.

if you don't want to adopt a tag project, just tag spontaneously while browsing. if you see a post that could do with some better tagging go for it. good tagging helps, regardless of it being part of a big project or not.

Thx for the tip!

You are in no obligation to do anything for this site, there's no shame or the need to feel guilt for being a lurker.

But if you really are willing, i'd be repeating what the guys above me has already said.

Holy fack I hate you /j IVE BEEN TAGGING WHISKERS FOR 3 HOURS NOW and somehow im having so much fun!!!

Thanks alot!!!

I think you might be using it wrong? =P

You are supposed to log into that website with your username and API key, then go to the project (ex. Whiskers Colors) and select "Start Tagging".
That'll give you some pre-made options with hotkeys, which makes the whole process a lot simpler.

Oh, thanks!

If you want some extra thankless work, you can check out the Tags section and sort the tags into the correct categories (most common of which is characters and artists being in the general tag category). There's also misspelt tag names, which you can try to fix.

I've been feeling the same. I've used this site for years and want to do something to help out. I suck at art. So, I'm going to help out with translations, mainly for all the Unicorn Wars art that exists. Hey, I'm planning on being a Spanish translator one day, so I'm getting the practice. Hopefully, if I translate enough, I'll be promoted to privileged and stop being a puny member.

It's not all about taking. Sometimes you gotta give back and that's real talk.
