Topic: Semi-Anthro, A valid form tag? and should we get a button for it on the upload screen?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Title should be self explanatory. But to preface: I find that the forums discussions on the wiki page are pretty dead semi-anthro so i'm making a new one along with a request (if it is allowed) to add this tag on the upload screen as a button along with the others, including taur.

It seems that this tag is some put it, a can of worms with no consensus. I'd like to re open this conversation to hopefully find that consensus. personally i don't know what the opinions and the active numbers of this community's tag discussers 8-7 years ago, but hopefully we it can stay civil.

All right, first is my 2 cents i suppose: I agree with the wiki with it being essentially the stage between anthro and feral while being mutually exclusive. i find this tag very useful in tagging forms for alot of pokemon and stuff. I would like this tag to be used and known by more users.

Semi-anthro is a necessary tag because feral<->anthro is not in practice a binary pair of states.as in if every feral wass the exact level of animal form as one another, and every anthro was the exact level of human form as one another
Though the upload form buttons need a lot of scrutiny and likely less options as their introduction marks the point at which animal_humanoid taggings skyrocketed on characters that should just be anthro.

semi-anthro is a supplemental tag that goes along with anthro or feral, when it's not clear which exactly it is. anthro or feral-related tags should still be used with it. It's like girly for male characters. It's not a distinct form in itself, and just like girly isn't part of the buttons for the upload, I don't think semi-anthro should be either.

Again, i do agree with magnus. i don't see it as suplemental, it feels like a proper tag that could describe a more specific inbetween form. girly very much wouldn't be considered a form or gender i agree, but i still see valid applications for semi anthro.

The line between anthro and feral is really vague already, which is why semi-anthro exists. Trying to add another distinct form in between would make it even more vague and ambiguous.

Oh, I didn't mean to push it as its own thing. I thought the thread was on the validity of the tag itself.
Also as stated I don't trust giving people more upload-page buttons as it encourages pressing them without understanding site terminology.

I misspoke there, sorry, i didn't mean to say specific.

that's a fair point, people are pretty uneducated sometimes even with a wiki.

Nice little necro, this was the most relevant thread.

An admin decision today locked semi-anthro off this post that was being warred between anthro and feral, where the character in question has very animalistic haunches but side-mounted shoulders and hands with opposable thumbs.
Is semi-anthro a site-accepted tag at all, or is it just a runaway Wild West tag carried by too many editors going rogue for the site to corral?

semi-anthro is valid, but that post in particular is not it. That character is pretty far into feral.

Eh, it has human arms. It's kinda 'Zootopia'-ish imo. It's definitely one that makes me squint and go "Hm... are these just anatomy errors or was it supposed to be semi-anthro?"

Name ANY actually feral species with opposable thumbs like that handpaw on the back of the chair.
