Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: rubber_boots -> latex_boots

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I've mentioned this before in that giant latex unaliasing BUR thread, but I'd personally really prefer if a lot of the rubber and latex items were kept separate. The results for latex_boots seems to be predominantly the long, skintight, knee-high or thigh-high fetishwear kind that you see in a lot of BDSM art, while rubber_boots -latex_boots (unfortunately a ton of posts are tagged with both) is predominantly things like rain boots or hazmat suit boots, or just regular old boots that happen to be (maybe?) made of rubber. Hardly the same thing.

One of the main reasons for unaliasing latex from rubber, as far as I understand it, is that the term latex is preferred in the latex fetish world. "Rubber" tends to get a lot more generic use. Same thing with rubber_gloves vs. latex_gloves. A lot of "rubber gloves" IRL is just stuff like dishwashing gloves or medical gloves. Likely not the kind of thing that people searching for latex_gloves are actually looking for, at least on a site like this.

Maybe we can pick better names for a lot of these, but I'm currently not very keen on tossing them all under one tag together.

You don’t seem to be up to date on the latex matter. The big Latex BUR led to the decision to use latex tags only for the fetishy stuff. rubber_boots were actually the most recent subject we handled. DiligentDragon, the creator of said BUR, is in contact with Admin Rainbow_Dash, who wanted that we cleaned up the rubber_boots tag before she makes an approval, so we did that.
About 2 weeks ago I removed the rubber and latex tags from anything that isn’t fetishwear and replaced the tags with whatever was suitable. Mostly rain_boots or a total removal, because no boots were depicted (only thigh_highs). A small issue were the boots that were clearly out of a rubber-like material, but didn’t fit rain_boots, so we created the tag waterproof_boots for those (We had no better idea).
We would really like to have feedback on this tag. My most current post in the aforementioned Latex BUR is about this and possible implications, but so far nobody has responded.
(By the way: The rubber_boots -> latex_boots alias is in the currently pending part of this BUR)
For the latex_gloves: As far as I know medical_gloves were already taken out of it a while ago. If people agree to waterproof_boots maybe we can create waterproof_gloves for all gloves that are out of a latex-like material, but not fetishwear?

Spicy. Yeah, I think I did read that at some point and forgot. I'm afraid I don't have a concrete idea of how to handle the waterproof issue. I'm inclined to say that calling them rubber would still be best, but I understand that's inviting mistags. I just don't like how waterproof_gloves sounds as a tag. It sounds like it's implying that fetishwear latex gloves aren't waterproof by being left out of the tag, while I'm pretty certain they are, and that itself may cause people to misapply fetishwear to that tag. However, the best alternative I can think of is something awfully unwieldy like utilitarian_rubber_gloves/utilitarian_rubber_boots. Gets the point across, likely no serious chance of mistags, but... kinda ugly. But includes medical gloves, dishwashing gloves, hazmat suit gloves, general rubbery work gloves, etc. while explicitly excluding fashion latex/fetishewear. How would we feel about taking that route instead?

Also, still 😐 on this request due to it being a duplicate of BUR #5971.

That is the route we are currently taking. Fashion and fetishwear as latex and the utility stuff as something else. I don't like how waterproof_gloves sounds either, but we didn’t have any better ideas without getting into the area of overly long/complex/bothersome to use tags.
DiligentDragon and I are still very open for suggestions. If people don’t like waterproof_boots we still can alias it away to something else. We left it on: We keep using it until someone with a better idea comes around.

Another point we didn’t want to do is splitting the boots/gloves into too many barely used subgroups. As the one who did the rubber_boots clean-up, I can tell that there are several boots that are clearly not fetishwear, but lack enough characteristics to make it clear what type of boot they are. Most of them require a full outfit or demonstration of use to really get what they are meant for. Hazmat suit gloves (or boots) for example need to be seen alongside the hazmat suit to make it clear they are hazmat suit gloves. Hazmat suits can also be the subject of being fetishsized, so they can possibly serve as both utility AND fetishwear.

I will definitely address cleaning up the latex_gloves tag (rubber_gloves already got aliased) in the Latex BUR in the future. While we got most of the aliases done, there are still some subjects I want to talk about (clean-ups, some definitions, implications, etc).
Can take a while. Currently, only DiligentDragon and I are actively working on it.

Maybe we should have chosen rubber_* instead of latex_* back in the big latex vs rubber debate :P then maybe the fetish ones are called fetishwear_rubber_* or something, and imply rubber_* ?

Would probably have ended in a similar discussion. Was difficult enough to agree on the current version (the entire debate started in 2021 as far as I know).
