create alias winter_coat (486) -> winter_fur (2)
create alias fur_coat (452) -> fur_trenchcoat (0)

Reason: Cleanup on those tags is needed first, ambiguous tags shouldn't be ambiguous.

post #4602079 post #4514679 This is a winter coat.

post #4586336 post #4551386 This is also a winter coat.

post #4547934 This is a fur coat.

post #4427377 post #4435292 This is also a fur coat.

The posts that are tagged winter_coat to mean the garment, the piece of clothing you wear during winter should be manually moved to winter_trenchcoat or similar before approving the bur.

The posts tagged fur_coat that are about the fur should be moved to another tag before approving the bur.

now I'm just thinking about british officers wearing fur coats in the trenches at Flanders.

Wouldn't a disambiguation of coat_(fur) and coat_(clothing) be better?

Pelt was aliased to animal_skin 5 yrs ago :/

Sorry I meant like winter_pelt/summer_pelt. I think that would still be ok even though just "pelt" means something else? Maybe i'm wrong though

So, my personal take on winter_coat and fur_coat:
- Disambiguate winter_coat. Have winter_coat_(disambiguation)'s wiki page link to coat and some wintery styles of coat like parka, and to a proposed new tag seasonal_pelt.
- Disambiguate fur_coat as well. Fur_coat_(disambiguation) should link to fur_coat_(clothing), fur, fluffy, and long_fur. We don't need an additional tag like coat_(fur) to describe poofy fluffy long fur, we already have tags for that.

Seasonal_pelt would be for a character's pelt that's shown to change by season, inspired by someone else's (I forget who, sorry) suggestion of winter_pelt and summer_pelt. It would be for cases like this:

(Not only for model sheets, those are just the examples I could find right now)

Updated

Actually I take it back about seasonal_pelt. Summer_pelt and winter_pelt are useful when searching certain species that look quite different depending on season. You could search for stoat summer_pelt or stoat winter_pelt to find stoats with their summer or winter appearances, for example.

So, have winter_coat_(disambiguation) link to winter_pelt instead of seasonal_pelt then.

My bad, ofc you knew that already. I didn't even suspect those were tags in use. :P
In that case, maybe pelt is worth revisiting as a disambiguation to seperate fur from coat? All your ideas sound good to me, though.

Oh they weren't in use yet when I wrote that! I just saw someone else suggest them in a different thread. I did some tagging with them myself after writing that reply though.

I never heard of "pelage" before. Makes me think of "plumage", which is for feathers. I don't see a problem with <season>_pelt, personally.

We could rename to summer_pelage and winter_pelage instead if the pelt thing is a problem

Nah, these new pelt tags are cool. Because again, we now have the option disambiguate pelt to avoid the double meaning of coat altogether. For example..

pelt (disambiguation):

Use animal skin when referring to the hide and fur removed from a dead animal.
Use throwing when referring to a character throwing something.

..And now, supposedly, coat and its derivatives could be used for clothing without confusion.
