Mabye, but super slag like that is generally isn't used here all that often and from
what's in the tag it's taken really literally. And clapping checks in that context and what
peeps would be expecting with the tag falls under ass_clapping,
ya know? But that's also may be the reason it was downvoted. Mabye they say it as reviving an old tag.

I suppose, but every post (3) with that tag is currently ass_clapping, and a few random posts I checked that had the tag removed were also ass_clapping. I didn't check most of them; the tag has been used and removed quite a lot.
The potential ambiguity is probably fine as long as the alias doesn't cause too many mistags
Cheeks are also those parts of the face on either side of the mouth, and it is perfectly possible to clap those. On the other hand, when it comes to e621, the clapping_cheeks tag seems to be primarily used for the buttocks rather than the face, so an alias will likely cause few mistags.
