Yes it is. It's an artist advertising their commissions in the forum. Which is against the rules.

Best bet is to put this information into your artist tag, and into the descriptions of your posts here on e6.

Personally, I think we should be more lenient when it comes to artists directly advertising, so long as they keep it to an individual thread (that is stickied), so people looking for commissions can just peruse that thread.

Yeah, as the others said...this isnt FA, we dont advertise in the forums here.

In your user setting (My Account -> Settings) there is written

My prices

This is for artists that have a tag on the site attached to their name, if you don't, it won't show up in your profile

Ask admins to attach tag to your name, and you can have your prices info on your profile page.

Can you link me to this thread? As I think even the first post says "no ads allowed" ...and this is also listed in the rules as well.

There is an "edit" feature below your post. Just edit your post out and ask for it to be locked.

This is harassing someone who just didn't know that we prefer ads to be on the profile and artist wiki page. Not a way for a privileged member to act

Cmon you guys we really need to not be jerks to people that are new to our site. It is not helping our reputation at all. Instead of just saying "no advertising" You could have been more polite, descriptive and helpful. Something like "Hello, I see you are new here so I'll help you out and tell you that advertising on the forums is generally not ok. Please take the information to your profile page. If you need help, ask an admin and thy will set you up" I know its more words but it makes a world of difference to someone and that helps us out in the long run

So much backseating, rudeness and so on. No wonder artists think lot of the users here are complete assholes.

Anyway. I like your art so expect me to contact you soon. I'm always up to supporting unknown artists

Most artists that you speak of think reposting art here, and crediting them is "stealing" or that this is fa and their picture of cub porn is actually a 3000 year old herm and gets upset its tagged as female cub. I wouldnt say whats in this thread is why artists think such a way, as there are many more reasons I think.

...

No. It isn't.

Backseat Moderating
Suggested Suspension Length: 3 to 7 days
This category includes:

Implying moderator/administrator privileges where none exist
Non-administrator/moderator/staff threatening to use disciplinary actions against another user
Demanding, ordering, or otherwise stating to an administrator/moderator/staff certain administrative actions to be taken against another user
This is aimed at preventing non-administrators from attempting to enforce the rules of the website. It does not matter if the user was correct, or incorrect, in their actions. Most, if not all, users are largely unaware of the daily dealings with the admin staff and would not be aware of any pending changes or discussions. In addition, users cannot demand an admin ban someone, report a comment, take down art, or any of the moderator/administrator actions. However, they can request that we look into something, so that we may perform our own research and resolve it without bias. Example: Sending a PM to an admin telling them to ban a user, with or without a reason. Example: Sending in a ticket citing a rule violation, then stating that if it wasn’t done to their satisfaction, they want all of their art removed from the site.

Again, no.

Harassing or Defamatory
Suggested Suspension Length: 7 days
This category includes:

Insultingly refer to other people, employees of Bad Dragon, Dragonfruit, or e621, or any groups of people
Performing actions which result in ongoing harassment to other people, employees of Bad Dragon, Dragonfruit, or e621, or any groups of people
This will be rendered against intent as well as action. The idea is to prevent a member from being uncomfortable in the forums or on the site.

This is intended to stop the insults and offensive comments that some people use. If someone makes a public comment, and someone finds it offensive, it will most likely fall under this. Example: I don’t agree with the admins (okay) The admins here are fucking stupid (not okay)

I didn't refer to anyone insultingly, nor did I act in any ongoing fashion.
And no, stating the rules, even in a less than polite manner, isn't backseat moderation.
Not according to the site rules anyway.

Ordering people around implies they have administrative power.
Do they have administrative powers?

This is correct, you would get hit with Spamming/Trolling, Harassmemt/Defamatory is for the more extreme occasions.

Spamming or Trolling

Suggested Suspension Length: 3 days, or Permanent
This category includes:

  • Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish
  • Creating threads for the sole purpose of causing unrest
  • Causing disturbances in forum threads or comments, such as picking fights, making off topic posts that ruin the thread, and/or insult other members
  • Making non-constructive or derailing posts or comments.
  • Abusing the Flagging for Deletion option, Report system, or other website tools by sending false information or nonsensical messages
  • Numbering a thread, IBTL, TL;DR, or any other fad statements

Now with that out of the way

Advertising

Suggested Suspension Length: 3 days
This category includes:

  • Any non-beneficial, non-approved related businesses, organizations, or websites
  • Can be linked with Spamming or Trolling if it is used multiple times in a short period of time

If you are the content creator of a given post, it is acceptable and encouraged for you to advertise products or services you may offer, in the 'description' field of your post. In the future, we hope to offer a more streamlined and useful system for the promotion of your own work.
If you wish to promote your product or service, please contact [email protected] with any questions/approvals
Visit https://e621.net/forum/show/10410 for more information

This is intended to prevent people from using e621’s forums and posts from being a source of income/traffic for their unrelated business. If someone would like to advertise on the website, we encourage them to contact us so we can try and get them better exposure. This also allows them a place to go if they want to pay for a banner on the website. Not all ads have to be paid for either, and in some cases, we allow businesses or projects to receive free promotions in order to do good for the community.

We discourage advertising in the forums and we will take steps if somebody is doing it more that once or in a really aggressive/disruptive way we will hit them, but doing it once will often not incur any action of us.

So, if you guys would stop with the "No advertising!" to artists and instead refer them to this thread and tell them to contact Dave/Dragonfruit then that would be really cool.

The same artists see you prancing around like a rooster, likely costing us more content in the long run.

TL;DR:

Donro, please have a look here, I was told the first hit is (kinda like heroin) sometimes free so you may have luck on cheap advertising, contact them, Dave won't bite your head off.
The forum is also only visited be ~1% of the userbase so banner advertisement will have much larger exposure than a thread here.

I think you may just be reading that text in a bad light. As a post explaining that we dont advertise in the forums, isnt ordering anyone around. It's merely saying that the userbase does not do this as others have already said.

Now as for your other suggestion, aka telling people to contact dave...that seems more like ordering users around than anything else said in this thread. lol

Btw I had a question, since the OP isnt paying for advertisements...shouldnt this thread be hidden or locked or something? (note: The following was a question, not a suggestion or an order) (note2: I am not asking for the thread to be locked/hidden)

NotMeNotYou said:

Content that would have never made it on the site anyway, due to the artists hating on our "tag what you see" rule, and thinking reposting images anywhere is "stealing" So you cant really say it costs us anything as they would have never allowed such things to begin with. So in short, nothing of value was lost.

You didn't explain, you stated, the magic of semantics.

"Admins generally discourage advertising in the forums, try having a look "here":<insert link here>"

wow
such ordering
much authoritative

Just kidding, but yeah, once again semantics.

See this as your first and final warning, stop asking for threads to be locked in the thread, especially after admins have responded or posted in it.
Report them in futility if you have to but stop asking for a thread to be locked in threads.

Thank you. I was really getting annoyed of such an amount of this lately and was about to report it.

I wasnt asking for the thread to be locked. I was asking what would happen.

Saying "Can someone lock this thread?" and "Shouldnt this thread be hidden or locked or something?" are not the same thing. I was merely curious about the whole advertising thing mentioned, so I asked, I was not asking for any action to be taken.

NotMeNotYou said:

What behavior? A user making a comment on artists hating e621 users? I only mentioned most of these artists hating the site hate it for other reasons that may or not be reasonable. No one has been "flinging shit" around here. :/

If I started to ask on forum "Why Conker hasn't been banned yet?" would you treat me seriously if I claim that I was merely curious or would you report me for harassing? Or if I asked "Has Conker stopped raping children?"

Really - don't ask questions that imply things.

I didnt ask "why hasnt this thread been locked yet" nor "can someone lock this thread" What I said was different, and had nothing to do with harassing users, mentioning usernames, or asking users to be banned.

Now...You are bringing up rape of children? Wat? Now you are just derailing things..

I am not here to push this thread even more off topic by auguring over any of this, just lets drop it please -.-

Yes I have asked for threads to be locked by requesting it in the past, however this time was not one of them.

I know you where trying to use an example, but I dont think we need "rape" and "children" in the same post to make said example..lol. That said, can we just drop the subject now? This has gotten way off topic

Is this really necessary?
I don't usually like to be the voice of reason, but seriously guys?
Could you take it to a Dmail, please?

Alright this thread got way out of hand. I will state it one last time. Telling someone what to do if you are not a moderator is backseat modding, and trying to interpret the rule a different way in hopes we will change our minds is wasting your time. We wrote the rules, so we know what our expectations of them are.

Insulting someone's intelligence using sarcasm, is harassment (or trolling, depending on exactly how you do it) but still, the bottom line is this: If you are a jerk to someone, you will get a disciplinary action. This is exactly why artists often view our site as a bad place and you aren't helping to change that
