There was one before this, but it was deleted due to request by owner. 1 through 12 say they don't exist. They weren't deleted, they just seemed to never exist. http://www.e621.net/post/show/13 is still visible for tags, but nothing else.

a similar conversation was held on image 13 before its departure. someone mentioned that the first 12 images were all lolcats

Apparently if you click previous button in the "related Posts" it does send you to #13 only to find out it was deleted by Admin Charr because the artist Cbee ordered its removal for some reason. After that, if you click previous, it does send you to where the previous pics are supposed to be, but when you get there the pages no longer exist :/
So officially this pic is #14, the oldest surviving pic on e6 but not the first post, there is a #13 but its a phantom post being deleted long ago. Then after that are the invisible posts that technically do not exist including the first post.

Actually we've all attempted to find the original 13 images on this site. My techniques was to use the "Wayback Machine":archive.org (archive.org) but failed.

If you don't mind me asking, what is your proof that this is the original image? :)

1. The previous 12 never existed in the first place for whatever reason.

2. I reverse image searched the artist's work and then matched up all the tags to the picture. The tags for 13 still exist.

As you can see in the URL this is picture 14 on the website. Post 1 to 13 were deleted due to copyright problems, however we found post 13 in an archived form no now it's "The Lost 12".
