News: Feb 26, 2025 Show

Feb 26th:A new bill in Arizona is making its way through the Senate that would force sites like e621 to implement mandatory age verification for all users—or face potential lawsuits. This system would require third-party vendors to verify every user’s age through a government database. Not only is this a massive violation of privacy, but it also introduces serious risks, including identity theft through phishing schemes and other malicious methods. Worse still, we would have no control over ensuring that user data is permanently deleted after verification.

Since e621 operates out of Arizona, this law would almost certainly impact us if it passes. If you want to help ensure that we can continue serving you without being forced to collect personal information, we urge you to contact Arizona’s senators and ask them to vote NO on this bill.

Please help spread the word about this issue and encourage others to take action.
Further information on the bill itself can be found at the Free Speech Coalition: https://action.freespeechcoalition.com/bill/arizona-hb-2112/

One Positive Answer

There are times you question yourself on who you are, what you are, if you are good or bad, and if you have a purpose in life. You remember those questions so you can answer them later. But those questions start to pile up until you only see yourself and the questions you can not answer. So many unanswered questions and you feel lost and trapped within your own doubts and anxiety. The harder you try to answer one, the more questions come to mind and stick to you. You start to lose track of who you are until you break down.

Sometimes, the most complex self questions can be answered by a few simple words – one positive conclusion that makes you feel happy and forget the kept questions you created for yourself. Think positive, and those negative thoughts and questions will soon be forgotten. Calm breaths with a clear mind, and you can do anything and be anyone you wish to be.

Think Positive, and Believe in yourself.

I have a better idea why don’t you just answer the questions

this sounds soulless. why would you try to be hurtful to someone who's opening up in front of you?

plus all you've done is ask another question to add on top of all the other ones the artist has about themselves. so if you're trying to help, you're doing a poor job of it.

you don't treat someone who's sad by mocking them and challenging them. you treat them with empathy.

perhaps you're just as sad and don't know how to say it. if so, and you want to talk, there's no reason to be afraid of sounding stupid in doing so or whatever fear it is that's making you sound mean. we all have difficult experiences and lots of them, and everyone's problems are worth addressing.

What you're saying is mostly true, though they're actually not entirely wrong about answering questions, it's just their approach that is wrong and likely too harsh.

It's sometimes a good thing to actually confront these things directly, and part of this could be answering these questions in a structured way. Instead of just patting them on their back and tell them you understand them (when it's unlikely that you truly do), sweep the problems under the rug and encourage them to "think positively" (which is mostly useless when there are real problems around).

E.g. no trained professional would (or should) blindly tell a depressed person to "just be happy" as that can actually in some cases be the absolute worst thing you can do to someone who doesn't feel like being happy. Often you might get a smile in return that may look sincere but when you turn your back the frown will inevitable return since you've done nothing to fix the underlying issue.

It's okay to be sad, it's when the sadness controls you or even consumes you it generally needs to be addressed.

Just to be clear I'm not saying you cannot comfort people or show empathy, but that alone will rarely make them better, you're just treating the symptom and not the "disease".

In addition and related is that putting yourself or other people up on a pedestal and saying you can do anything, is probably part of the original disease. Pretty much no-one can live up to the standards we put on ourselves and others. It's fine to aspire to greatness, but sometimes such talk gets too much focus, I actually find this quote quite fitting:

    things

    agreed.
and how are people trapped in sadness to know what any of that means? "it's up to you to become something" is just further depressing to a person who believes that their actions result in consequences that have nothing to do with their intentions. how is somebody supposed to interpret how this all applies to them when their disease causes misinterpretation?

i'd like to know why people have so much faith in trained professionals, as if the training was all great. even given the best intentions, nobody knows what they're doing because no one can flawlessly read the future; and ultimately it's either left up to the individual to solve their own problems anyway. or worse, it's thrown to the medical system where depressed people are some of the fattest cash cows and the medications don't address the cause of the disease and are meant only to sedate and addict.

i saved moon_lit_black_cat's comment cuz i could see the downvotes coming and this site just works so well. i'm glad it started a conversation.

i think the solution has nothing to do with answering the questions for yourself, though. the most natural way is for people to mimic how they've been treated. speaking for places where there's a fair amount of physical security, i believe the greatest threat to emotional health is people getting told right and left that their natural inclinations are untoward without sound reasoning being applied.

  • I have been trapped in this kind of thought trap...could not explain what I felt or why, everything I tried never met my over inflated ideas...when I hit the bottom of that barrel I had to start asking more questions until I found one I was able to answer, and from that one I got more and more.

Helping someone with issues can not be done with a 'standard' I have spent enough time with a shrink, to pick up on how they work...minus the framed papers on the wall and other such things.

A good step is to just listen to them, just having someone to unload too can help greatly

One I’m extremely happy with my life even though it’s constantly being screwed over again and again bye the humans that surround me

Two I’m probably the one human on earth that literally has no fears if anything im bored

Three my problems can’t be addressed bye any means what so ever

Four I’m trying to help this poor bastard if he wants to solve his problems he needs to jump right in and start solving them not sitting around staring Into the mirror adding more to the already long ass list he already has

Five next time you try to analyze someone do it properly

You must be real fun at parties.

From someone who has depression, I ask myself questions like these every day, with no clear answer to them. I turn to my friends for help, and they are always supportive of me. It is incredibly ignorant to judge someone for asking themselves questions like that. Maybe this artist doesn't have anyone to vent to, so it slowly gets worse and worse over time? Maybe you should think before you open you big f**king mouth next time. Just an idea.

Well your better off then most but Speaking as something that has wondered in shear pitch black darkness for years speaking as a lost soul who hasn’t a friend in the world to walk with speaking as a monster who could take a life without a second thought that you should remember that there are people far worse of than you so next time you wish to speak or through a tantrum remember there are darker souls than you in this world born from far darker thing’s

Have you ever heard, "If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all?" The majority of people won't look at your reply and think, 'Yeah, I'm better off than some.' They'll just think you're a massive asshole who enjoys being a negative person just to get a reaction out of others. The only thing darker than a black hole in this universe is your attitude.

  • I say no to all of these things because A) they aren't true, and B) because of the nature of what i was creating it wasn't meant to make you "happy", it was designed to question, designed to ignore, designed to paranoy, scare, and hate others who believed in the best of humanity, BECAUSE the story i was writing called "black pheonix", was designed to instill that fear of what humans do.

Pave a road to hell with good intentions, just steam rolling everyone along the way, sometimes intentionally.

Because i was forced to care about my readers health and was going to art school, and had to deal with teachers, they "fixed it" to where it boiled down to corperate greed, rather than the conditions/motivations of leadership, and how "noble" they really were when they deliberatly inspire bad behavior.

    through a tantrum

To downplay someone's depression as though it's a mere temper tantrum...

No. Sorry, but just like that everything you've said here has lost all value. You should absolutely not be taken seriously, no one who downplays someone else's serious mental health issue should be.

Depression is not a mere tantrum.
