I just realized Trace's estate is like the Forest Castle in "Blue Moon Rising." Except Forest Castle was much larger and more chaotic. Doors might not open to the same room twice, the west wing was lost for over 50 years, and people could become so lost they might never be seen again. And Rose is like the Seneschal. He was the only one who could sense how the castle rearranged itself and guide people through it. He could also sense who was where if he concentrated. Just like how Rose knew these two goobers are not where they should be.
