"Shifting Slowly"

Sketch of the 1066th page of TwoKinds.

Transcript

Raine: Alright… carefully…

Raine: Don’t shift all the way… Don’t shift all the way…

Red: Woah, freaky…

Raine: Gah! Don’t watch me while I’m changing!

Roselyn: Out.

Red: Sorr– ack!

Sythe: Hey, did you hear that?

Maren: Tch! The nerve of that pervert.

Raine: Eh… well, it worked, I think. Sigh… back to dog legs. I guess it is better than being unable to walk.

Raine: The other arm changed too, though. I couldn’t stop it.

Roselyn: Fascinating… was it painful?

SCRATCH SCRATCH

Raine: No, never. It does kinda itch sometimes.

Roselyn: Hm, good. Painless means it truly is the same ability as Euchre’s. Though I’ve never seen it stopped halfway like this. Strange.

Roselyn: I think I know of a way to help you gain more control over your wolf side… but you’re not going to like it. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if you outright refused, once you learn what it’ll take.

  • That accidental innuendo.
Also, bet the condition is that she has to accept being a wolf. It'd be pretty hard actually, having been raised hating that side of her (because her mom basically left her locked up because of it) and having a boyfriend(?) that is extremely prejudiced against keidran in general.

Changing from one species to another must be very hard.

I remember there was a short story on TFSA about two professors debating what it would take to gene-splice a transformation serum, and one remarking you couldn't do it in one shot because you'd need to completely reconfigure the genetic structure to support the new anatomy. Unfortunately for him, he was the unwitting test-subject for the nanobots, and died when the shock overloaded his system. :/

    Sounds grim...
