Honestly, I’m not that surprised Nintendo made him take it down. Companies need to be very careful with their IPs and what people do with them, since if they aren’t they could lose them. Plus, given what normally happens to any Pokémon fan games, this really isn’t a huge surprise. I mean, yes, I’m surprised it happened, but in retrospect I can see it. So... It’s back to the drawing board for this mouse. But fear not, I’m bringing back Sam and the gang! Though this time, with a bit of a world change and a new beginning. Plot wise, all events that happened in OSE will have happened though it’ll be after a time skip. And IP owned by Nintendo are excluded. We came to an agreement on that.

Characters and World:

The working title of the new comic is “Sam and the Changing Fates”

Sam will now be a small, well endowed, fennec fox! With the rest of the gang taking on other animals and mythical creatures.
The world will comprise of ferals (4 legged creatures) with the ability to turn anthro on demand.
Instead of college, Sam will be joining Pride’s Guild! Going on quests and odd jobs leading to “fun scenarios.”
This new world is created to be much more inclusive than the OSE world.

+500 Rewards changed to new comic:
Promised pages will be honored and accepted until August 31, 2019. At this point the OSE reward pages will no longer be offered. Replaced with a cameo appearance in the new comic with a 3 panel intro paget. Patrons who already received an intro page have a chance moving forward of having their fursona (Non-Nintendo) added as a cameo character as well with another 3 panel intro. Though they will be required to have a 1k total pledged for this chance.

I’m grateful to all fans of OSE for sticking it out these 3 years with me. This is a new beginning for Sam and friends in a grand adventure that’ll take our fluffy hero to new places with a new form. But the same personality you all know. And now is a great opportunity to include your fursona! I’ll list restrictions on a needed basis for that, but just bear in mind this world has mostly 4 legged creatures. Your character can and will be turned into a feral for the intro pages, but can appear anthro when in the background. Species included can be nearly anything.

Comic pages are slated to release on Mondays, and will appear on Patreon up to a full 4 weeks ahead, just like OSE was at the $20 tier.

Thank you all for reading, and especially thank you for your continued support. Our community took a small hit this day, but we creators are resilient and ready to deliver content worth your time and money. And I will continue delivering content into the foreseeable future. OSE may potentially be worked on, on the side and posted publicly. However I cannot guarantee this.

Unfortunately this pretty much means the end of the comic for those only really interested in Pokemon, regular stuff just doesn't do it for me even if you try to apply a PMD spin. I'm not sure this was the best course of action for him to take rather than coming up with a different plot and then doing stuff with Discord, or other off site stuff to keep the regular comic intact.

I'm going to miss this comic. Just wished there could have been an end scene to the comic, instead of it just...abruptly ending like this.

Well this does suck very much. But... I think this comic ended on a somewhat good note (even if it wasn't planned) and left the big end to it up for personal interpretation! Sam's discovered he has a special power no other Pokemon of his species has, he's banged all his roommates to completion, and it's confirmed that Sloth is pregnant with his pups.
Since we don't have an official end, my head canon ending is Sam eventually takes Sloth as a mate and fathers his pups. But their relationship is open, both of them have no qualms with still having flings with the other Eeveelutions of the house. Sam works and trains more often with Wrath, training to master his secret power. His sex life is as good as ever, and he's happy.
I think that's a sweet end to it all <3

Again, it does suck that this had to come to an unfortunate and abrupt end. But still, I think this final page leaves many endings up for interpretation!

I don't know about him, but I'd be afraid to see how much a big company's money and influence can bridge the gap between it being "nothing they can do" and actually getting some kind of enforceable sentencing.

No, in all seriousness, the only way that could be pulled off is if Kuro made it clear he wouldnt be taking money for the comic itself. I think, at this point, the comic has a large enough fan base that game freak wouldnt attempt to sue if it can be proven that he isnt taking money for it, like a direct quote from Kuro himself. Backlash is a horrible thing, and no company wants to deal with fees that theyd have to pay in court to sue. Personally, I dont think Kuroodod would be in any danger if he continued to make the comic, but as it is his comic, it’s w/e. Noone can force him to stop drawing it, no matter how much money game freak wastes throwing at the problem. Fair use laws on parodies, as mentioned in above comments, do apply here.

Regardless, Kuro has my support, whether it be for this comic or the next. Cheers!

If kuro really did have to stop making this comic, it would bobsled was. I mean, so much time and effort has been put into making it.

One other thing...
Fair use laws dont allow for money to be made on copyrighted work. That doesnt apply to general donations. So if Kuro were to set up a "support me" thing that has nothing to do with the comic itself, the comic would no longer be pulling money, and could be continued.

On another note, the new artwork looks really nice. Something tells me our favorite Raichu is a little excited for the revamp regardless.

That's why you need to make something I think 30% different to and call it a parody to prevent any copyright issues. Then again I'm not 100% sure about international laws.

From what I know kuro stated that he'd start a new comic with the same characters set a few years later, and they're gonna be his own creations, not Pokemon anymore. He might continue this comic in his free time, not getting paid for it in that case(means no patreon early releases), but nothing is set in stone for the future of this one.

Well, he deleted the pages he made after this, so I think it's safe to share what happened afterwards for anyone who wants to know. Copyright law gives Nintendo EXCLUSIVE rights to create derivative works of Pokemon. Kuro's use was not fair use, and therefore they had every right to take it down, whether we like it or not.

Yes, this means that any random image containing a pokemon violates their copyright; and yes, they could sue and win.

Seems incredibly dubious to me. To target ONLY this comic, and not tell all the hundreds of other R34 Pokemon art and respective artists the same, sounds more like someone impersonating the IP owner, for a targeted attack. It would be pointless for Nintendo or whoever owns it to tell only ONE artist to stop.

What's being missed by many in this conversation was that Kuroodod was receiving money for this comic through Patreon, which is more likely to get you fucked legally than doing it for free.

I'd actually already considered that, he's not the only one, and I won't snitch on others, but they do exist. I can't imagine Nintendo would miss all those others and find this one, unless someone told them about this but not other instances.

But whatever, it hardly matters, the comic will go on with some minor changes. I just find the circumstances of this occurence suspicious.

Having seen the new style of the characters, I'd suggest giving it a chance because they look really good. I'm not so locked into the idea of it being pokemon as I enjoy the various personalities of the characters.

I hope they do have pups that would be sooo cute!

Week 8 of it's end

From what I am hearing a copyright claim got filed against the creator of this comic by Nintendo. The problem might have been that they were making money from Patreon but really I feel like Nintendo is in the wrong. Nintendo has been known to do this stuff before like with the one problem with YouTube where they took revenue from YouTube creators that played their games. Really I feel that YouTubers shouldn't have their money taken away because they are advertising the game. But how I feel about this is that copyright laws have fair use and one fair use rule is parody which I do feel that this is parody of Pokemon. I am saying I feel like this is fair use for reasons of parody because this is not really something you see in Pokemon. I know that sounds weird but really to me this is parody and I do feel this should be fair use. I am for the creator making money off this comic so they can actually see it as a career rather than a hobby. I am saying that fair use I think money still should be made.

I certainly hope so. I'll give this new comic a chance to prove itself, but the redesigns pale in comparison to Pokemon.

Legally? Depends. If Kuro was making money off of the brand, and the parody argument fails, then yes, they can by law, since he is using copyrighted work. However, if the parody argument wins, then Nintendo would simply be a dog barking at the end of it's chain, regardless of money made.

On another note, if we were really stupid, sloth could give live birth and thus the "educational" argument could be used, since they are technically mammals :p

I don't like memes in my story, and random artstyle changes is just a big no in my book, you should stick to one artstyle and use only that one for the whole comic.
