It shrinks, penises are made of a spongey tissue, right, I think horse penises are even spongeyer than ours and can shrink a lot. Plus they store it in the prepuce, which is a loose flap of skin, homologous to our foreskin.

Before MLP, I didn't even know what a Horsecock looked like.

I would assume you at least knew what your own looked like, though I guess I shouldn't assume. That said I'd also assume you've gotten at least some basic sexual education, just saying :P

Horses lack a os penis as do all other ungulates (and humans - who're the only primate species to not have one). As such, they have what is known as a "vascular penis" - the penis is erect as a consequence of bloodflow alone.
