JPG version of post #2137247

The previous upload is visually identical and was artificially converted to PNG.

  • you have to be joking. the png was my source export. the original post was uploaded by me, aka the person who drew this. the quality difference probably isn't meaningful here so im not going to do anything about it, but shit.

this is why don't like the fact that they removed the uploader's name from the sidebar. in 2 seconds anyone could click on that and see that i'm the artist. of course that's still possible if you look at the tag history but apparently it's something a lot of people probably won't do.

funnily enough, e621 is generally the best place to find the highest quality (public) versions of my work because they don't do any type of compression bullshit. so, you know, for future reference, if you happen to see my art here, check the uploader before you do anything. it's probably safe to assume that if it was uploaded by me it's the right version lol.

    ok rant over.

So that means start of my rant.

I'm starting to genuinely hate the argumentation of "I'm the artist", even if someone was president of united states doesn't make them correct. That's why professionals have been trying to stop people from drinking disinfectant because people have been listening to president of US. Let's work with actual facts and arguments instead and if there's problems with those, fix them, allright?

The reason why the uploaders name is removed from side panel is so that people would take it with the staff and not with the users. I was the one to handle the flag on the earlier post so take it with me or report me. Also uploader is first editor in tag/desc history if you really want or need it.

No, earlier upload definitely was not direct PNG export and I can proof it. MD5 of that post is e106de7a076bef39231d14b7611567c4 (md5:e106de7a076bef39231d14b7611567c4 status:any), this matches twitters large PNG source both hash and visually (visual comparison)
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EP0U-chX0AI5s8R?format=png&name=large (was also listed on the posts source, see post #2137247 sources on left)
However with over 900px or over 256 color PNG images compresses the file into JPG, so that image on twitter is JPG and manually altering URL into PNG just converts the JPG back to PNG, which is why the earlier post regardless of being PNG had JPG compression applied into it. You can see clear 8x8 macroblocking and lack of detail on the post: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/460517895420772353/712795837465362572/e106de7a076bef39231d14b7611567c4.png (4x upscale from earlier post, which was proper .png, e621 changes filetype to be correct from header instead of extension)

You can learn more about how twitter works, essentially you can get JPG compressed PNG or WebP files from them if you want:
    forum #279644
    howto:sites_and_sources

So what actually happened was that you uploaded PNG to twitter, twitter converted it into JPG, you took PNG conversion of that JPG from twitter and uploaded it. Unless you can proof othervice, this is what happened and we were hosting lower resolution JPG compressed version of the artwork and other user trying to help us simply replaced it with higher quality, non-bloated version.

Additionally because this is twitter JPG compressed version and you are the artist, you have the ability to upload the original PNG export yourself and flag this for deletion as being ugly ass JPG compressed version of the work instead of making huge rant about it in the comments.

Also sorry for being aggressive myself, but that comment really triggered me. Felt bit like insult of me not knowing of what the fuck I am doing on this site and insulting users doing good job.

Would argue that you simply missremembered of how you uploaded single post 4 months ago and for some reason you used twitter image URL changed from JPG to PNG instead of local file, but whatever works for you.

Also if you want your twitter posts to look better/near original, you can export your artwork at 100 quality JPG and upload that (photographers on twitter got trough change that under 4096px JPG uploads will not be recompressed anymore) or limit the palette to 256 colors on PNG (see post #2250093 comments).

Okay, that's all the time I've got. I got to get back to playing Persona 5 Royal on my Sony PlayStation 4 Pro.
