Unless she was dead and that dance allowed her to come back for a sec. Either way works. +1.

Did she change places with the dead one (her turning to bones) or was that just a temporary visit thing?

There not even real but it feels like they are and i don't even know them but there is some kind of connection. the beauty of this animation is overwhelming. Great job! (crying)
It looks like the mom sacrificed herself to save her daughter and they both got one last hug before she departed her life. aww so sad :(

P.S not to ruin the moment but... what was/is the name of the song its prity good. :)

You are seriously mistaken. Cats not Foxes.

Given the whole 'Tag what you see' thing... we might have to put both cats and foxes up there, as people see either. I was seeing them as foxes even before seeing 'Species: Canid - Vulpine' and 'Keywords: Vixen' on the FA page.

Most interesting thing is that after I posed this DEATH. Is not a tag.

I subscribe to the idea that life is stronger than death.

Why the universe is full of stars and not black holes.

Poetic but... black holes don't represent death, just another evolutionary state in starhood. And there are actually somewhere around 100 million black holes in Our galaxy alone. Black holes are actually the catalysts of new life. They periodically spew out ridiculous amounts of near-light-speed energy that can kick-start new stars and planets, and act as the gravitational anchor for our entire galaxy. They also have a finite(though near eternal) lifespan, and continue to grow as they take in more mass.

  • this.. I've watched it 50+ times.. the emotional experience is.. just deep.. though in my interpretation the mother isn't sacrificing herself, but taking a momentary trip to the spirit world to assure her kit that though he may be dead, there's a future.. once the child realizes what's happening is when I always lose it.. this pulls on both emotional and religious heartstrings.. Tirrel, I think I speak for the majority of the community, you have deeply touched us all

The original placement of the middle/front grave while the mother is dancing, changes to a crudely made grave that's closer to the pedestal. That's where the cub buried its mother, who is now gone.

I agree with everything else though. This is truly a FANTASTIC animation. One of the most touching - no, perhaps THE most touching I have ever seen.

  • Two years later and I finally understand this.

The mother, dug up her deceased Daughter, and I believe it was Inca or Mayan Practice to dance with the remains of a loved one as they believed it would either bring them back, or it would properly send them off.

In this case, it brought the daughter back but a toll had to be paid in doing so, the mother Sacrificed herself as she had had a long enough life, to give her deceased daughter another chance.

Brb I need to go wipe the man tears from my face

It's in English, actually...a direct substitution code that reads "Talking With Ghosts". The full version of this piece is called "Rescuing Ghosts"; the last 2 1/4 minutes of that is the music that we hear here. The word at the bottom of the page is, of course, "Play".

    I would agree,
    but keep in mind,
while e621 was originally developed in 2007 as an art sharing site for all good furry art, it has become more and more focused on yiff, so this had to happen eventually.

Doesn't help any the Tirrel doesn't seem to do animations anymore (and none of his other animations seem to have gotten the same amount of love as this one).

I guess if it makes anyone feel any better... at least its not Jasonafex at the top.

Eh, I chuckled. That wouldn't be possible though, there would be too many downvotes to balance things out.

But old or not, Tirrel's animation still deserves first place, if you ask me, just for the fact that it's safe, and it's not crappy 3D model made to take advantage of some hype.

It doesn't help that the animation is so... static, too. It's just a one-second loop on each angle, and that's it, there's nothing to tell you if you're further into the animation, or if it went back.

  • Neither one "deserves" anything. The score is a representation of enjoyment across the site's userbase. There's nothing special or "representative of the site" for having the highest score, so pretending it has some special meaning or honor is a little confusing.

Not to mention how just being in/near the spot influences voting, since having a high score can attract attention and more upvoting simply from the score itself and not the content.

Let this animation stand for what it is. Don't cheapen the message and impact by comparing useless numbers in a thin excuse to complain about which one you think is "better" than the other.
