In the furry universe STIs don't exist, so I'd probably believe that.

    Loona has syphilis though.

EDIT: Oh wait, syphilis is curable, the source description says she got her hands on some penicillin.
I blame inadequate sex ed from my Christian school that left me thinking that STIs are always permanent.

It's a huge problem, and the hospital I work at really tries to push education out there. There is currently no general sexually transmitted disease that's not treatable or highly managable. All of them are easily treatable with penicillin outside of HIV and herpes. Herpes is so overblown that most people think it's worse than it really is. 1 in five people have herpes, and they will never know it unless they test for it. Since there's no cure and no real need to treat it 99% of the time, many tests make it optional. The cases you see on pamplets are the 1% extreme cases with complicatons - you can find that for anything, including shit like the common cold. Most people will have flu-like systems, it'll be the worst the first time, and then it'll get progressively less severe, though most don't even realize they're having a herpes episode because there aren't any symmptoms for most folk.

HIV is still dangerous but we have drugs now that will reduce the virus to near 0% in your blood, which is so low that you can't even pass it on. However, that's still going to cost money and you'll have to take it for the rest of your life, so while you're not dead, it's still something yo definitely want to avoid.

Overall, sexual education is super important and using protection is definitely recommended until you've been with your partner for a while. Funnily enough, it's having an unexpected kid that will ruin your life more than any STI.

In the pilot she asked if the box she was given by one of the other characters was a cure for syphilis.

I'm not even surprised. A user on Fenoxo's forum work(s? worked?) in the British police and once put his hair in pigtails to troll a homophobic suspect.

It shows she's sexually active with no filter for two things.
It also shows how her symptoms could be adding to her character's irritability.
Based on the crappy avocado salad and phone smoothie, it could also be an indicator that she has little regard for what she puts in her body.

  • I read in a medical magazine that syphilis can affect the brain in some way as to render the affected person permanently horny(not sure how accurate this is, as I read this years ago).
