I own one, fucking great knife. I've also got the aluminum body Paradox, bought it for 140$.

Me too, except I have the cheaper version. Still a hell of a knife though.

Getting some premium cringe with how people talk about knives...

You buy a cheap knife, it can break on you or not even cut. An expensive one, and that's the last knife you will need!

Or you can just get a good one that doesn't cost a bunch of extra money for no reason. A decent, maintainable knife isn't as expensive as people make them out to be until you start pulling this 'collector' nonsense.

In general, the more expensive it is, the better it is. Same logic applies here. I mean, give me a forge, hammer and anvil, and I'll make a quality knive for, say, $10 worth of scrap steel and sell it for, say, $100*. Just because it looks like the knife in the picture doesn't mean anything. It could be crap, or it could be better.

*The extra $80 goes to maintaining the forge, hammer/anvil or mold, as well as any mishaps. I wouldn't sell it for $20, which JUST allows me to build 2 knives.

Or alternatively, you can just get yourself a chef's knife for about forty bucks instead. Easy to cut just about anything with, easy to sharpen with even a cheap sharpener, and no burglar's gonna fuck with someone who pulls that massive thing out of a knife block. Unless they have a gun, in which case no knife in the world is gonna hold up.

If you're looking for defense on the street, then a passable pocket knife is even less. No one's gonna need to be using a self-defense weapon all the time, so thinking along the lines of, "This needs to be a perfect weapon that lasts hundreds of battles and strikes fear into my enemy's heart," isn't the way to go at all. True, don't get one that costs five bucks, but definitely don't drop more than a hundred on it if you're just trying not to get out-shanked.

I'm saying that for a general pocket/straight knife, or any blade in general. I also don't have actual values, but that was just to defend overcharging of knives. Also, I'm not trying to kill humans, it could be a hunting knife. A chef's knife is designed to cut food, a pocket knife is used for whatever, et cetera. Also, as I said earlier, I could use the same steel to make armor, swords, axes, hatchets, and other tools that would take days to list. I would charge $100 for a knife, more for a sword, and somewhere in between those 2 for a hatchet. If I'm trying to get out-shanked, then I would build an armor suit fit for me. No need for a knife, then, right?

last thing i wanna do is start an argument again but im a guy that likes knives.... a $40 chef knife is most likely going to not be carbon steel with a milled aluminum handle that can also fold and unfold and actually be designed for cutting and stabbing... things... without getting stuck etc. A "passable pocket knife" yes you can find for cheaper, cold steel is fairly overpriced a little bit but i dont think you'll find a REALLY dependable folding knife down by the $40 range, or well you can but... It depends. A knife isn't just a weapon it's also a tool, you might need to stab into a can or something to eat canned food if you get lost or whatever, or cut like wood and stuff, and a cheap pocket knife will more than likely have the tip bent if you use that for anything and everything else can become loose should you need to "chop" something like wood with it, like using a big branch or rock to do what they call "batoning" i have to admit i forgot what that was called had to look it up again, but yeah cheap knives especially folding knives or anything that isn't a single fixed blade can easily break or become loose if it's not made with high quality. Which of course, yes, a knife isn't exactly the best tool to use for that kind of stuff obviously an axe/machete would be better but it's nice to just have a fairly "expensive" knife that is compact, fits in your pocket, and you could use for basically anything. Could you defend yourself for something cheaper especially if it's just for 1 time? yes. Could you depend on/survive for a long time in the wilderness with only a "cheap" knife, not likely. Plus some people just like knives, there's William Henry knives that cost literally $9,000 but they're engraved, made with gemstones, the handle is made from a mammoth tusk, and it looks like a piece of art, some people are just into that sort of thing.
(also im aware that this particular cold steel knife probably isn't designed to be a survival knife but still if we're just talking about price points, and not cold steel, then my point still stands, now if you say "i wouldn't pay $140 for a Cold Steel knife" then i'd probably agree with you lol)

No argument was started. You merely joined in on one that ended.

  • Am I the only one to see it? An umbreon is flushed and wants to give me the knife. What the hell does that guy want from me?
