If you want to be that pedantic, you can tell it's male by the rate at which the arm tapers. Given the fact it only goes outward and not inward, defining the muscle mass indicates there is a lot of flesh and flab to the arm, and given the overall thickness to the hand, it's easy to tell the gender.

ambiguous gender to me is meant to be used where some gender is actually able to be contested, a disembodied hand is not one of those things
