One Hundred and One Dalmatians, usually stylized as 101 Dalmatians, is a 1961 Disney animated film (the seventeenth in their animated canon) that is an adaptation of the 1956 children's novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians by Dodie Smith. The film is about two dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, whose fifteen puppies get kidnapped by Cruella De Vil (via her two henchmen Jasper and Horace) who wants to skin them for a spotted fur coat. Pongo and Perdita end up not only having to rescue their pups, but 84 other dalmatian puppies Cruella also took as well.

The film's success spawned a media franchise years later, beginning in the mid-1990s with a 1996 live action remake that starred Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil (a role she was praised for in an otherwise mixed film). An animated series called 101 Dalmatians: The Series ran on ABC and later syndication for 65 episodes during the 1997–98 American television season. This series, co-produced by Jumbo Pictures (the studio behind Doug), took place in an alternate continuity of sorts where the dalmatians lived on a farm and primarily focused on four characters, dalmatian puppies Lucky, Cadpig, and Rolly, and their chicken friend Spot. A sequel to the live action 101 Dalmatians, 102 Dalmatians, was released in 2000, with Close reprising her Cruella role. In 2003, Disney released a direct-to-video sequel to the 1961 animated original titled 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure. After years of dormancy, the franchise was revived with the debut of the Flash-animated series 101 Dalmatian Street in 2019 (after sneak previews in 2018).
