Protogen are a cyborg alien species created by Malice-Risu in 2015. They are an open species, but have guidelines on "proper" design (see Guidelines section).
Protogen's most identifiable non-biological feature are their face, which is a short, rounded, wedge shaped muzzle, entirely covered in a LED-like "visor" which typically displays a pair of large simplified eyes, a mouth, and frequently a pair of nostrils. These visors may also display eyebrows, blush/blush lines, sweat drops and even text or symbols. This visor can split open, creating a mouth for the protogen to eat food. Protogen are covered in fur, typically with a mane of fur around their neck, and have 1-3 sets of furred, triangular, canine-like ears. Broadly speaking, Protogen tend to be superficially similar to a canine anthro, or furred dragon anthro in most respects beyond the features above.
Protogen can have other synthetic parts, such as robotic limbs, an artificial tail, panels (typically on the outer thighs), and a chest plate. While these elements are all part of the "standard design" set by Malice-Risu, other artists may give Protogen more human-like anatomy, or omit the "secondary" synthetic features.

Guidelines
Note: While it's generally considered good practice to do so, it's not required for an artist to follow these rules.
Protogen exist in three variants:
- Common: The standard Protogen. These have two ears. Free to make.
- Uncommon: These Protogen have two pairs of ears and a pair of horns horns (five variants available). Free to make.
- Rare: These Protogen have three pairs of ears and can have multiple additional limbs, including extra tails and wings. Must be bought (citation needed).
When creating a Protogen, the following rules must be observed:
- Protogen must not have any dinosaur traits/anatomy.
- Protogen must have biological ears.
- Protogen must have the short, round visor.
- Protogen can only be bipedal with no feral forms allowed.
- Protogen are not allowed to have wings unless they are of the rare variant.
