fantasy slur
A fantasy slur is an offensive term targeted at a group on bases such as race, gender, or age. Compared to typical slurs, a fantasy slur is either invented or used in such a way that only has utility in a fantasy setting.
A fantasy slur will commonly allude to real-world racial slurs by way of rhymes or similar etymology, especially when related to primates like monkeys:
- The Warhammer 40,000 book "Codex: Eldar" (third edition) defined "mon-keigh" as a pejorative for any inferior species, especially humans.
- Dragon Ball Super character Zamasu is frequently observed calling mortals "ningen" (Japanese for "human"/"person"), which has since become a meme in English.
- Furry fiction occasionally uses "skinnie" or "skinny" as a human-centric counterpart to "furry", sometimes as a slur, and sometimes as a reverse furry who likes fictional humans.
- Furry fiction occasionally addresses humans as "apes", as in a tailless primate.
