A map (specifically a geographic map) is a section of the earth, or the entirety of it, depicted on a flat surface (typically a foldable sheet of paper). The appearance of this depiction differs from map to map, depending on the given map's purpose. For example, maps intended for hiking will often paint different types of terrain with different colors and add icons denoting points of interest. A notable type of map is the treasure_map, which features a large X-shape to mark the location of buried treasure.
Due to the fact that the surface of a sphere cannot be projected onto a flat surface without distortion, no map can be completely accurate to how the earth really looks. For that purpose, you'll need a globe.
