Also known as "modelling" or "chiaroscuro", Shading is a technique utilized in the 2D visual arts to create the illusion of depth and form in the image by employing light and shadow areas on subjects and surfaces.
These areas usually follow the logic of how light and shadow would fall on the surfaces and warping caused by shape and textures of the surfaces as they would in real life but they may also be abstracted.
