When a character who is being penetrated (the "bottom", which is not to be confused with submission) is the one taking control of the situation. This is commonly expressed in gay dominance activities where the "bottom" is physically on top of their partner and showing dominance, or in femdom situations where the submissive character, usually male, is penetrating the dominant female (contrasted with pegging, where the dominant female is penetrating the submissive male). Power bottoms are frequently seen in the cowgirl position.

The term "power bottom" is related to BDSM, particularly in the D/S aspect.
