Species: baboon
Baboons are six extant species of old world monkey belonging to the genus Papio. They are most closely related to mandrills, macaques and geladas, the last of which were for a time also considered a species of baboon. They are some of the largest monkeys in the world, with elongated dog-like muzzles and fur that is usually brown, tan, or grey. All species of baboon are native to Africa, though the hamadryas_baboon is also found in the Arabian Peninsula.
Their most widely recognizable feature is their hairless butts, which are adapted for comfortable sitting and in which female baboons experience swelling during mating. Their butts are often depicted as brightly colored in art and media.
