My Little Pony 'n Friends was the animated program which featured the original 1986-1987 series of My Little Pony cartoons. The program itself would consist of two segments, the first being an episode of My Little Pony, and the second being an unrelated cartoon. The series debuted after My Little Pony: The Movie (1986), which takes place in the same continuity, and the series was followed up by the unrelated 1992 My Little Pony Tales series.
As in later animated adaptions of the franchise, the show featured Earth ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns, as well as many creatures from mythology and fantasy species unique to the show. Unlike later renditions, human children were major characters. Characters and concepts from this first iteration of the My Little Pony franchise, including the 1986 film and the toy line which began in 1982, are commonly referred to as "generation one" or "G1" by fans and collectors.

The 1986 series featured several characters, names and creatures that would inspire later characters in the 2010 Friendship is Magic series, or be adopted, re-imagined and/or referenced in the later iteration of the franchise.
