The Simpsons is a long-running animated TV series and media franchise featuring adult and sarcastic humor as well as social commentary and parody. Its characters have abnormally yellow complexions.

Main characters (The Simpson family):

• Homer Simpson — Husband and father. Known by his bald head, bear gut, love of beer, and his annoyed grunt catchphrase "D'oh!". He's not very bright but loves Duff Beer, donuts, his family, et cetera.
• Marge Simpson — Wife and mother. Known by her very tall tower of blue curly hair.
• Bart Simpson — The oldest child and only son. Often irreverent, rebellious, and troublemaking, Bart just likes to stir things up and see what happens.
• Lisa Simpson — The middle child. Female. Serious minded, likes to play the saxophone.
• Maggie Simpson — The baby of the family, she's surprisingly bossy and a bit of a tattletale. Which is pretty impressive for someone who's still nonverbal and only able to crawl.
• Santa's Little Helper — The family dog (specifically a greyhound).
• Snowball — The family cat.

Supporting characters:

• Ned Flanders — Neighbor to the Simpsons, he's ridiculously cheerful and religious. Homer hates him.
• Milhouse van Houten — Friend and schoolmate to Bart. Very nerdy, insecure, and gullible.
• Chief Clancy Wiggum — Springfield's lazy and incompetent police chief.
• Ralph Wiggum — Schoolmate to Lisa and son of Chief Wiggum. Incredibly dumb and says many nonsensical things.
• Moe Szyslak — The owner of Moe's Tavern, a bar that Homer frequents.
• Charles Montgomery Burns — Usually known as Mr. Burns, he's the evil, elderly owner of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant where Homer normally works at.
• Seymour Skinner — The principal of Springfield Elementary School. A strict disciplinarian, he is easily pressured by his superiors; his mother Agnes and Superintendent Chalmers. Supposedly was born Armin Tamzarian, but those are just rumors.
• Groundskeeper Willie (Dr. William MacDougal) — The head groundskeeper of Springfield Elementary School, with an aggressive attitude and a thick Scottish accent.
• Gary Chalmers — The superintendent of Springfield's school district. A strict man who makes Principal Skinner very anxious.
• Comic Book Guy (Jeff Albertson) — The proprietor of The Android's Dungeon & Baseball Card Shop, a comic book store frequented by Bart. Very sardonic, he is known for calling things the "Worst [X] ever!"
• Krusty the Clown (Herschel Krustofsky) — Fictional TV celebrity with a cynical outlook on life.
• Sideshow Bob (Robert Underdunk Terwilliger Jr., PhD) — Former sidekick to Krusty who tried to kill the clown, but his plan was foiled by Bart. He holds a strong desire to kill the boy.
• Selma Bouvier — One of Marge's chain-smoking older sisters. She and her twin Patty hate their brother-in-law Homer, and the feeling is mutual.
• Hans Moleman — An elderly mole-like man with horrible luck. Famously made the ten-second short film Man Getting Hit by Football.
• Itchy — A fictional anthropomorphic mouse from The Itchy & Scratchy Show, a fictional TV show watched by Bart and Lisa.
• Scratchy — A fictional anthropomorphic cat from The Itchy & Scratchy Show, a fictional TV show watched by Bart and Lisa.
