Recursive vore describes when a character eats or inserts a character, who in turn has already consumed someone else, or eating a character who is in the process of eating someone else. The predator becomes prey, a predator within a predator.

Recursive vore can repeat (or recur) over and over again, with preds inside preds inside preds... however, most recursive vore only goes "one layer" deep, with two characters, a predator and their prey, both being ingested by or inserted into the body of a third character.

This is sometimes informally called "voreception" in vorarephile circles, referencing the 2010 film Inception, which had a premise of recursive dreams ("dream within a dream") and which spawned a meme of "(x) within an (x) - (x)ception".

Recursive vore is usually depicted in these three ways, all three may be shown within a single comic or sequence:

• An internal, showing a character within a character (and so on), all within the "top predator" who consumed all of the others
• A character shoved into an orifice of, or being swallowed by, a character who is in turn, in the same orifice of another, or being swallowed as they swallow their prey
• A character consumes someone, or has consumed someone, and then is consumed themselves by a third character
• A character is consumed by a predator, who has consumed, or goes on to consume, a third character, one of the two "prey" consume the other while inside of the predator's body
